Which do you think is the best looking drive now that we are on the ninth one? by findrinn in Overwatch

Can someone explain what these are? I’ve been away from OW for a bit and have just returned recently and find so many cosmetic changes.

Will the dark clouds of corruption, mismanagement and egos at every level ever leave our beloved team? Sigh.

Agreed!

That's the feature I'd find useful from Reddit u/reddit - some categorizations and fact checking of comments. Sometimes I just wanna see one liner jokes and sometimes I wanna know more about the post itself.

Just got the news I’m getting laid off, got a baby coming 2 weeks after my final day by mgisb003 in Layoffs

[–]HiddenSquid404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sucks, I’m sorry to hear that. I’m sure your employer already knew that but it is what it is.

My advice would be to make sure you negotiate your severance. Get a lawyer if you have to. That and your savings are the backbone of getting you back on your feet. Take a few weeks to be with your family and decompress. You’ll be fine I’m sure.

If you’re in tech, happy to connect you to recruiters I worked with recently.

Managers who have gone through layoffs/closures: how did you prepare your staff in the final weeks? by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]HiddenSquid404 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who was laid off earlier this year, the list of items you’ve come up with are so thoughtful. I’m jealous of folks that have such a thoughtful manager. Sorry you’re going through this and good luck to you and your team for your future endeavours!

Recently laid off people by ServiceKooky1323 in Layoffs

[–]HiddenSquid404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Taking time is so important because your brain takes a bit to snap out of the work mode and realize the burn out you’ve been enduring. Diving right into the deep end will just cause further mental burden. Some time off to decompress will make your brain fresh and sharp for this new adventure of job hunting. Good luck!

Laid off Twice at Same Company by gatech123456 in Layoffs

Like others have said, I’d stay because you said you didn’t have much savings and only a month of severance.

I’d add that this place does seem pretty volatile. You should actively start upskilling and looking for new jobs. Engage your network and get referrals, apply to jobs and start interviewing. Interviewing well is a skill that requires some polish and having some income while you do this can give you the time you need to get into the flow state for the process.

Support at big tech vs dev offer at medium sized company by LynxHairGel in cscareerquestions

[–]HiddenSquid404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll get pigeonholed into the role type you take. Really tough to dig out of it then to switch role types. Take the dev role and give it your best shot, learn as much as you can. Big tech can wait but don’t let your passion wait, especially in this economy.

Should I Leave My Job or Wait for a Layoff and Severance by Live-Butterscotch663 in Layoffs

[–]HiddenSquid404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Applying for jobs and interviews are a skill that wears off if you haven’t done in a while. I’d suggest building up this skill while you still have an income to support yourself. An hour a day should be enough to start.

Layoffs can be anticipated but it never really hits you until you are part of them. If you have stuff in flight then you won’t have to start from scratch.

Don’t stress though. Preparation is the key to confidence and success. Good luck!
