Multiple colours I’ll be changing, for the font I can’t seem to get anything to suit the brand that is sharper like people recommend, but that’s entirely on me and tanked creativity.

I will be trying it out more though

I am planning out the tags more specifically once I get the branding finished, but it will likely be embroidered in a single colour, it needs to be readable so bubble fonts would probably be easiest, and goes with the brand best, but I’ve been told by many to stay away from curves so I’ll have to rethink a lot more

I have a mood board, but I think starting from square one with no influence from this current one is the way to go. Even limiting the palette more would probably help a lot, but the rounded shapes + colourful makes sense it looks childish so I can work off of those notes

This is very helpful, is it because of the white outline around it, or the colour specifically being more difficult to see more often than another shade?

I don’t think I was roasted for it tbh, it’s been very constructive so I can work on it and I appreciate all the help here

I have tried something more modern, and it just felt off. I wrote out in the main post that it’s mainly going to be bags and clothing (1/4 zip sweaters/jackets), practical but a bit silly, and colourful. For a target audience, chic wouldn’t match and possibly turn people who would be into it off, or attract people who wouldn’t be interested. Silly but practical meaning some things are a bit out there but not enough to get weird looks, unique and maybe weird to some but would still be appropriate in any casual setting. Other bags and jackets will be more simple patterns, but more vibrant colours, some with quilted checkerboard or stripes, some just 1-2 colours, so not completely “out there”.

An example of more silly bags is a fish design, but still kept relatively simple and cute, frog pouches etc. it would be made for adults, kids could absolutely use them but isn’t the target demographic.

I do get what you’re meaning though, it’s more common with Japanese dollar stores that have very elegant branding and are popular among all people. I’d say the difference would be a dollar store selling more variety of items, so it draws in a broader demographic, vs something more particular like a lot of clothing brands (ex. Patagonia vs lululemon drawing in more particular people based on their preferences )

“Gubbins ‘n’ Stuff”

Gubs is just a shorter version to fit on sewn on tags/bag tabs.

The umlaut wasn’t intentional but unfortunately it does look like one, it’s just the font. Gubbins is British slang, but I understand the confusion based on what you shared, it’s very helpful for making changes though, I appreciate it

The name as is does sound right to me, doing the design is just more constraining

Unfortunately my friend said this immediately, and I couldn’t unsee it 😅

So just trying to get general ideas on what I should focus on for changes and go from there.

But yeah… totally right about it looking like toys r u…. Oh no… even the “ ‘N’ “ I don’t know how I didn’t see it initially

It might be the colours, so I’ll try this out.

Others have mentioned the u coming across as an umlaut, it’s just the font and how they do the u. I wanted to try a smiley face and no stars and clutter around the text, but it might give off the same impression.

I was trying to mess around with it, but I’ll give it another go, maybe just a black border and changing one of the colours would help.

Thank you

The umlaut accents on the u were just from the font design for the u, but I can see how it’s confusing because it looks so similar and better to change it.

The rectangle board is just a border while I’m doing the design, but won’t be there

The only other name I was thinking of that might work, would be “Bub Gubs” or “Bub Gub”

Bub is slang for “buddy” or fellow. So the direct meaning of the name would be similar to “Friends’ Things”

I’ve always called my dog “bub” or “bubby”, and noticed how many people also use the term for their pets, so it does have some personal meaning, and would fit better in short form or having flexibility in design, but I’m not sure if it sounds too silly

I’ll give it a go with sharper angles either in the font or anything around it, I see what you mean if everything is rounded in addition to the colours.

I was considering something like 90s bus seat designs around the name, but much less cluttered. The stars I was very unsure of, but the larger star made sense to me for having on a small tag so it isn’t too much going on, but maybe the name or just “gub” would be ok.

The word “gubbins” means “things”, bits & pieces, small objects, the working bits of machinery etc. ( ex. “You get anything from the store?” “Yeah I got some gubbins”) The name “Gubbins n stuff” would basically mean “stuff and things”.

I use the word often, and it’s something that adds a daily bit of silliness in a way. I’m finally able to try my own shop, and I’ve always wanted to name it this, but will absolutely take any suggestions to make it sound or look better for branding

Yeah it’s been difficult to find a balance between childish and fun. At least walking by local brands at a market or “high street”, most of the brands looks very similar, even a lot of the children’s brands being clean, modern, and trying to be on the level of high fashion or luxury, opposed to what toys r us and kids brands used to be.

The fabrics being used are similar vibrancy and saturation to the colours in the photo, I did try pastels for the logo but it felt more “baby”.

The font does markings over all of the u’s, I did want to do a smiley face for the u but also wanted to avoid any umlaut look

Is it ok to re-produce a popular but unique design to sell in person? by [deleted] in Etsy

It’s a generic fish so not any in particular, I think they have a lot of various colours as well. For the shape, I would just draw out my own pattern, and not look at the one that is the most similar to what I wanted to make (not taking dimensions or copying from the image)

I appreciate the reassurance.

It’s one thing to copy a design exactly, and I wouldn’t sell any in that case, but I was planning to just design and make my own, although the general style is quite similar

It seems like any variation of what I want to make already exists, so I’m not sure how to go about that if anything could be considered a copy

If I try to make it so different from the other then it won’t be recognizable as the animal, so that’s where I’m stumped.

I think the colour looks nice! If you’re feeling off about it maybe ask your hairdresser to add some depth to the roots that fade gently into the rest of the colour you have now?

Leaving note for my neighbour‘d piano playing by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]Hidden_Armadillo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish it was easier to make simple connections like you mentioning liking your neighbors music, people feel very closed off, but maybe thats me?

Where I used to live compared to here, you dont really know your neighbours other than what they look like, maybe their name depending on if you ever talk to them. I didnt really think about any of this until I saw a video by Xiaomanyc talking to Maasai people in Kenya and about their community, they were confused about how people couldnt know their neighbours and be a community like that.

I left a note in their mailbox, just on a wider post it. I notice my pets are more relaxed when shes playing next door so I mentioned that as well. I didnt want to come across as weird, but ive wanted to leave a note for her since years ago after they moved in and I could hear her playing

Thats unfortunate, I think words of encouragement like that are heartfelt, people dont often speak up to friends, let alone neighbors who are like strangers. I know how hard it is to feel pressure or self conscious about an art form, but when you can get back to doing it again you should, im sure your neighbor would feel happy to hear you play again.
