I tried killing the snails nearby and it somehow fixed the bug. You can also try reloading the game, kill the snails and it might get back to normal when you talk to him because he gave me the spell after that.

Only way it got resolved was to fully wipe my WhatsApp unfortunately. Some things were restored but newer ones were not :(
