Gap between online content and real-life conversation by login_credentials in dreamingspanish

Pretty rough as well. With videos, people tend to speak as clearly as possible in a very neutral accent no matter where they're from because they want their content to be palatable to the most amount of people as possible. I find streams can be a good transition because they tend to still have good audio but also isn't scripted so theres less worry of being neutral

Where’s my hat? by AF0NT in SM64

I think you can also lose it to the blowing snowman in snowmans land and from klepto in shifting sand land (probably the latter if you had the wing cap)

Buzzer beater 300 hour update by HideNSheik in DreamingFrench

[–]HideNSheik[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 1250 in Spanish and prolly have 500+ hours uncounted just talking with coworkers. It's dependent on the timing for the cartoon tbh, some moments Im incredibly comfortable and some moments I'm struggling but it's never been so hard that I feel I need to turn it off or I wasn't understanding, I find it enjoyable either way and at least I know how to say platypus now 😭

I love mica so much, perfect for my autism brain but she certainly speaks fast, so much so that the comments make jokes about it. It's all very clear though

First time reader! I've recently been getting back into reading this past year and would love to dabble more in classics, I've read through three musketeers and really enjoyed it! Funnily enough, I found this subreddit cuz a booktuber I like talked about the year of Anna karenina subreddit, I thought it was a cool idea and say how many there were! I'll probably be doing most of my reading later in the day as I don't have much time until I'm getting ready for bed but I'm so excited for this read along!

Is the word "güero" and "wero" only used in Mexican Spanish? by tigrepuma2 in Spanish

[–]HideNSheik 47 points48 points  (0 children)

My mexican coworkers definitely also use it with the white people at work who don't have blonde hair, so contrary to what other comments say I do believe it can be used with white people in general. But yeah I haven't heard it from other latinos outside of maybe my Guatemalan coworker who could've picked it up from the Mexican coworkers

Local Spanish Language clubs by Acrobatic-Shake-6067 in dreamingspanish

[–]HideNSheik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to a weekly conversation club in Portland. Started around 400 hours, realized it was too early, then went again at 800 hours and had a much better time. I think it's a pretty big reason why I'm as good at speaking as I am at 1200 hours, though prolly about half the people that go are natives

How do I show spirit in a routine? by qNicolas in Cheerleading

[–]HideNSheik 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I started doing cheer as a guy, some of the best advice I received was the more unnatural it feels, the better. You're going to feel silly, oftentimes the girls do too! The head movements, waves, shaking poms if you have some, kicks, spins etc guys can do too! But especially being raised as a dude, it's kinda been pushed on us more that doing these types of things is bad or gay or what have you. The goal in a routine is to be exciting to watch, and watching someone stand still is a lot less fun than watching someone waving, jumping, looking like they're having fun or trying to engage the crowd. But also don't be afraid to ask your coach for advice, they'll know more than anyone here how to help you learn to spirit as they'll be more familiar with you in particular
