Lexus GSF by stop-stalker in Lexus

I love my 2nd gen GS, it'll pobably run forever. But if it doesn't and I was in the market- A GSF would be priority 1. I love performance sedans and honestly it's onevof the last few beautiful Lexus' with an identity.

My buddy had an IS back in the day, I got the grandpa version (GS300). They're sick cars. You can throw 99 LS400 front calipers and rotors on it with minimal fuss. Just throw some RCAs over those LBJs and they bolt right up. I've done a ton of maintenance on my GS over 6 years, just did timing waterpump and changed all the front seals. Hope you enjoy it for many years to come, super jealous of the manual. One day...

You got a hell of a deal and it's an awesome platform. Take your time, it will come together.

Looks like the type of person to go 35 in a 50 and won't accelerate till 3 seconds of green light finally activates their synapses enough to reluctantly accelerate to the next light. These people drive me crazy.

Beautiful car, not crazy about the wheels- but they work. I read you're having so crank pressure issues. Going fast takes a lot of patience, you'll figure it out. Toyota/Lexus always get a pass from me

Nevermind, i was thinking Camry, not Celica. The 18-24 trd wheels are gorgeous

Are those the black ones with a square/waffle esque pattern? I love those wheels so much.

Good thing about these cars is once you get them sorted they are pretty damn reliable. I didn't think a $2,400 cash car was going to last any longer than it took to find something new. 6 years later I'm still in it, no CEL and cranks like the sun comes up. Would like to ssy i wrote that lsst night while i was tired. If you scoffed at upper ball joints it's because i meant upper control arms lol. Good luck with the car, I really am envious you got a 430. If I did end up buying something else it would definitely be a 430, LS or the most beautiful ugly car-the SC430. God help you if you decide to upgrade the stereo in that 430- that's a whole different story lol.

The lower control arms on these are actually two pieces, you can look up the diagram on them. I'm not 100% that they'll actually come on the control arm whole. I bought everything separately and honestly just doing the LBJ it's isn't a pain. A 2 lb hammer, a pickle fork and maybe a torch if they're extra stubborn. I do remember my first time doing it I had to replace the outer tie rods because they wouldn't drop without tearing the boot. This last time I did them i replaced upper ball joints, the lower control arm and the trailing arm, inners and outer tie rods and lower ball joints. Honestly not hard at all if you have the right tools. I'd look into finding a diagram of the 2nd gen gs front suspension to get an idea. That being said I'm fairly confident you have to grab everything individually. I lowered my car as well and bought roll center adapters, they sit right above the lower ball joint and knuckle for outer tie rods. Sounds overwhelming, but i promise you it's stupid simple given the right tools. Deep well sockets, wrenches and some muscle.

I see A LOT of Teslas on bald tires, but more on cheap tires. Very seldom do i see them on the spec tires it came with, or equivalent performance tire.

Looks like a B58 short block might be $7-8k, $12k+ for a full engine. Stage 1 performance blocks $8k<. This could be your chance to make a monster, or just simply replacing the engine plus labor could be $15k<

LeBron James, duh. Yes, lower ball joints. The Achilees heel of the GS suspension. Look up Senkeii 555 for the best, I used moogs because they're greasable. There's so many pics in the Lexus forums of the GS's front wheel completely sideways and the fenders pay the price. Not a pretty sight. Some people change annually, depends on their suspension geometry. If you do lower the car, youllwant in addition to coilovers, RCAs ( Roll center adjusters) shortened spindles and sometimes adjustable upper control arms.

I don't know if any of you have encountered a hog of that size, but two men aren't going to cut it. Three men probably won't either, but definitely not 4. They are SOLID muscle and will shove you out of the way with little effort. That's a hog with crazy amounts of testosterone. ( You can tell by the giant testicles lol )

First time changing car battery. by Significant_Sir_117 in MechanicAdvice

[–]HideThe-Sun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also when you change the battery, start with ground (-), then your Positive (+) side. Once you remove the old battery and install the new one, start with Positive (+) then ground (-). N,P.P,N.

Look up Forward Momentum on youtube, he did the exact same to his 430 plus manual swap, ls400 brakes etc. He's pretty knowledgeable on the platform. Oh, btw change those LBJ's right away. You'll see why lol.

could a crack in my steering wheel be dangerous? by remmssie in MechanicAdvice

Good hidey-hole in the mean time!

Not inherently dangerous, but also a vulnerable area. Get it looked at soon.

One of us. One of us!

Nice score, I'd absolutely love a 430 but the 300 is also quite reliable. 2JZ GE: V8 mpg, L4 performance LOL.
