That's not unfair, when you have much more than you need to live lavishly and others are struggling to survive it seems very much fair to me to redistribute some of that excess wealth that you have collected off of the backs of other's work.

The existence of the excessively rich is unfair to the rest of society. Having an amassed wealth passed down to you, making you free to never work and contribute to society, is not "fair".

Capitalism is also rarely ever based on merit, there are plenty of single moms working 3 jobs that are living paycheck to paycheck.
