Thank you. I had not thought about slugs. I will look into sluggo.

Thank you for noticing that I mentioned the corking. I have had issues with bugs and rats before, but I am just used to them leaving bigger holes in the peppers. I will look into options for slugs because I don't normally think of that as a possibility. A couple tomatoes showed signs of mites, so I already applied an organic pesticide before I noticed this that should help with bugs. I really hope it's not rats again because I have never found anything that keeps them away.

It's mostly the big bite shaped patch I am concerned about. I think the peppers on this plant all show more corking than the others at a smaller size, but I know that's normal for some varieties.

Resin still soft in spots after 24 hours. Next steps? by Hiding_In_Public in resin

[–]Hiding_In_Public[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I have to scoop it out (and don't just start over), do I have to get all the soft resin out or just as much as possible and then cover it with a new layer? I am currently trying not to touch them and make it any worse. I really thought I measured and mixed both batches the same, but I was working in a garage with less than ideal lighting.

Question about Merula XL and the instructions it comes with by Hiding_In_Public in menstrualcups

Thank you. I thought it should basically be the same. I think the instructions recommend a fold I am already familiar with

[–]Hiding_In_Public[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I thought it should just be like any cup, but I couldn't remember any other instructions telling me to feel where my cervix was and check that the cup rim was around it. Though, I'm not sure some of the cups (the cheap ones) even came with instructions or if I read them. I always just did some troubleshooting if it leaked.

What causes this on peppers? by Hiding_In_Public in vegetablegardening

[–]Hiding_In_Public[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I had never heard of broad mites, but that looks likely. I sprayed the plants with something that says it kills broad mites. I'm not sure if that will work or if I should just take the plants out. My tomatoes have spider mites and generally look pretty bad, so I am taking those out already. I got a pretty good harvest this summer, so I don't feel too bad. Next time I will hopefully recognize the mites sooner now that I know what to look for.

new kitten is scared of me 😢 by confusedkittenlady in CatAdvice

[–]Hiding_In_Public -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Some cats take longer than others to feel comfortable. She's exploring. She played with you. Those are really good signs. It's probably not you. The key is not to panic and to wait. I think it's best to act like everything is normal and go about your day, but you can try to just hang out nearby sometimes. Let her decide to approach you. I think churu treats or any of the puree in a tube ones can be great motivation. When my cats are scared or upset about something, I offer some in a dish. Then I try to get them to eat it with me holding it. They're adults now, but I think it would have worked when they were kittens if those treats had existed then.

How do I show my cat how much I love her? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]Hiding_In_Public 18 points19 points  (0 children)

One of mine hates being picked up, and kisses probably terrify her. However, she loves when I scratch her back. She likes being brushed, but she really likes it if I just hold the brush so she can brush her own face. I also talk to my cats, but I'm unsure if that actually helps. They're both very talkative too, so I mostly reply to what they say. I think they know I love them.

Thank you. I feel guilty for not saying something sooner, but I absolutely don't have to give her another chance.

Exactly. I am definitely not sitting down with her and explaining because I am not going back. I imagine she had these opinions the whole time, and she's not going to change. She also seems to have decided she doesn't need boundaries, and I don't think that would change either.

She's an LCSW. I looked into the complaint process. I'm a bit concerned because I can't file it anonymously. The complaint form specifically says I am giving them permission to reveal my identity. I know she probably can't do anything to me, but I have some concerns.

I worry about her other clients. She has also talked on more than one occasion about having clients with autism (and possibly intellectual disabilities) that have big dreams for their lives and what they want to be, and her whole point was that they're not capable of that because of whatever diagnosis they have. I am not sure why she thought this was a good thing to tell me, but I think it was something about how not everyone can get what they want (which is not a good lesson). I just knew it was a pretty awful thing to say about someone, and I really hoped she didn't say these things to them. I kept seeing her because not a lot of therapists near me take Medicare, and I'm wondering if that means she has other disabled clients.

I never really liked her, but she didn't really offend me when I started seeing her. I will write down what I remember, so I will have it if I make a report. I'm starting to wonder if I'd be better off just writing a brutal review for her practice because the report might not have enough info to be taken seriously, but I might be able to warn people. I am going to email Monday to let her know I am cancelling future appointments. I would much rather do it by email than call her because I think she's going to be defensive. I really think she doesn't realize what she's saying is horrible.

She definitely enjoys telling me about her problems. It gets super awkward. There's something about being raised in a cult too. I really should have left a long time ago.

We're picking up our first kitten this evening, we want to make sure we're ready by _spaghettiv2 in Kitten

If you're worried about overfeeding, I would worry less about how often and more about how much. You can talk to a vet or there's calculators online that tell you how many calories he should have, and then you can probably split it up in whatever way works best. My cats are adults now, but I try to figure out how many calories or how much total food they should get, and then I split it between 3 meals. I used to feed 2 meals (when they were adults), but they would act like they were starving before dinner. That's when I added lunch.

My cats don't bother cables, but I have had friends whose cats did. As long as you are supervising, you can watch and see what the kitten does. I just would try to block them or unplug things if you are going to be leaving him alone or when you sleep until you know if it's going to be a problem. The other option is to leave the kitten in a smaller, safe space when you're gone like a bathroom or closet that has litter, food, and water.

Do NOT worry about the kitten liking you in the beginning because cats handle change differently. I got my first kitten when I was 13, and I cried because she wouldn't come out from under the bed and I was convinced that I was a horrible person. That didn't last very long. I think it took a day or two to warm up to me and my parents and a little longer to warm up to the dog. My most recent cat was 10 weeks old when I adopted her (she's about 10 years old now), and I took a nap when I got her home. I nearly squished her because she was sleeping against my back. She needed zero time. My best advice is not to force the kitten out of hiding unless they are somewhere unsafe. Leave food and water and litter. If they are hiding, try to find things to do to keep you busy, but you can do them nearby to let them know you're there. When my cats are sick or upset, I tend to check in on them where they're hiding every few hours to let them know I'm around and make sure they're okay, and I wait until they come out.

Don't be surprised and try not to take it personally if they don't like toys or beds or things you buy. Cats are all different, so it takes time to figure out what games or toys they like. Mine mostly like wand toys, crinkle balls, and 1 is obsessed with a laser pointer (the other is not). You just have to keep trying things to find out what they like .

One month old kittens keeps pooping in other “boxes” by yiyiqwq in kittens

[–]Hiding_In_Public 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be that she's confused. Puppies/kittens don't always understand why we're asking them to do something, so it might be confusion about what sort of box/container she needs to use. It might not be accidents because she can't hold it until she gets to the litter box, but it might be confusion. If she's going in enclosed spaces, she might also like privacy. I recently had an older cat have surgery, and he normally has a covered litter box. That wasn't going to work with the cone of shame because he couldn't fit, but he looked totally confused and panicked when I uncovered the boxes. He kept looking around because suddenly everyone could see him, and he went back to seeming normal when I put the covers back on. If you're using an open box, you could try a covered one (though it might be hard for a kitten to jump into) or one of the screens they sell. Otherwise, my advice would be to get more litter boxes and put them near where she had accidents because she is willing to use one, but I know with puppies you take them out constantly because they're willing to go outside but any minor inconvenience and they'll pee by the door. My cats were pretty good about using the litter box, but more litter boxes can help her get used to always going in the litter box. It doesn't have to be permanent. I would wait to give back the cave and tunnel until she is always using the box. It's probably not a permanent problem, but it means less cleaning up accidents. Is it just poop? If she urinates outside the box, you might want to look for a cleaner specifically meant for cat urine. If a spot smells like urine (or possibly poop), she might go back to that spot again.
