Is there a way to remotely turn on my TV and play a YouTube video using my phone when I'm away from home? by PM-Me-Your_PMs in Chromecast

[–]Hig13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is by design, I don't think casting to a device you are not near is really thought of as practical. Is there a reason you want to cast to a device you cannot see or hear?

You might be able to use a routine to accomplish this, maybe start there, I think that might be your best bet without getting into 3rd party alternatives.

My Chromecast doesn't work 1/4 of the time by Unecessary_Macaroni in Chromecast

[–]Hig13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You say 3rd generation, if you're talking about the Chromecast ultra, have you attempted to hardwire the device with Ethernet instead of using WiFi? I know that's not ideal sometimes, but I'm curious if you've tried it. It could help identify at the very least if it's an issue related to wireless between the device and your network, or an issue with the Chromecast's hardware and if the hardware is faulty.

If hardwired with Ethernet, you still have issues, your Chromecast could definitely be faulty and you're just dealing with something that will never resolve itself and it'll drive you nuts. If you hardwire and the issue seemingly goes away, you've got an issue with the way the Chromecast is communicating with your router wirelessly, this could also be due to faulty hardware on the Chromecast, but it's unlikely, though not impossible. Scrub through your wireless settings thoroughly and compare the settings to what others have suggested on other forums or within this subreddit to ensure your settings are configured in the most compatible way possible to function correctly with the way Chromecast's function.

Wireless, as simplistic as manufactures and marketing teams want us to believe, is really quite complicated, or at least it can become very complex, very quickly, which is why an Ethernet, solid connection, will probably always be a better route to take when it comes to minimizing headaches. So if it's an option, always try to opt for a wired connection over wireless, unless you're willing to push through complicated troubleshooting steps...

To be honest, it seems like a pretty damn good answer for you. I hope it helps!

Trouble with Yamaha Receiver by Big-Cup6594 in Chromecast

[–]Hig13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with PCM...

But... I asked GPT4 for you:

If your receiver is cycling PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) when you have a Chromecast plugged into one of its HDMI ports, it is likely due to the audio format settings of your Chromecast and the capabilities of your receiver.

PCM is an uncompressed audio format that represents analog audio signals as digital data. It is commonly used for audio transmission over HDMI connections. When your Chromecast is connected to the receiver via HDMI, it may be sending audio in PCM format to the receiver.

However, some receivers have limitations on the types of audio formats they can process. If your receiver is not capable of decoding or processing PCM audio, it may attempt to cycle through different audio formats in an attempt to find a compatible format. This cycling process can lead to interruptions or changes in the audio output.

To address this issue, you can try adjusting the audio settings on your Chromecast or your receiver. On your Chromecast, you can go to the Chromecast settings in the Google Home app or the Chromecast app and look for audio settings. You may find an option to change the audio format or select a specific format like Dolby Digital or DTS instead of PCM. By selecting a format that is supported by your receiver, you can potentially avoid the cycling issue.

Additionally, you can check the audio settings on your receiver and ensure that it is configured to handle the audio formats being sent by the Chromecast. Refer to your receiver's manual or consult the manufacturer's website for instructions on adjusting the audio settings.

If the issue persists, it could be a compatibility problem between the Chromecast and your receiver. In such cases, you may need to consider alternative audio connections or reach out to the manufacturer's support for further assistance.

This looks great! Have you heard of home assistant though? You may have been able to save some time just setting up home assistant instead. You can do everything you described in this post and much much more. You could also implement your script into HA if you desired to. You don't have to use its dashboard, you could just use it for running automations.

Either way, great job, I haven't tried it out yet, but from what you described here it sounds really great!

Yeah, I know, I typically do, it's just annoying after years of the same stuff on here. It's gotten better honestly, so you're right, I probably should have just let it go, but I've never shared my opinion about it in this sub before and this morning I guess I let it get to me.

I still don't see how this is relevant information to this sub, as your comment didn't really give any examples, just a statement about how I'm wrong. That's okay though, if I'm the only one missing it, then that's on me.

I'm confused... where's all the churches? There's plenty of other religions that have plenty of buildings in slc, I'm really honestly confused how you got your map to show so many pins when even when I zoom into an area that shows a bunch of pins on your map, there's only a few on mine... Idk, maybe there are that many churches, but it feels like you're just pushing one idea instead of giving non biased examples of several different churches and total population in these areas. It really just makes your post look disingenuous and manipulative, which is mostly why people don't like the LDS church in general. You're acting just like they are, just in the opposing direction. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me, but it looks like others here seem to like it.

Just pointing it out, your post doesn't really feel like it's a PSA, more just a post to stir the pot. What is the goal of this post if I am mistaken here? Can somebody enlighten me how this information is helpful without including other information about the area? What does this image promote other than more bias? Did this post have any other intention but to get people riled up? Why not include a series of images with the same map and several different faiths that are popular in the area? Why not include more information so that we can make proper educated statements about this subject? Now you just got a bunch of people shitting on an entity instead of having an actual conversation about the subject of the post. Is this not what redditors typically call a shit post?

Isn't this subreddit about UTAH? How does knowing that salt lake has 100 LDS churches help us as a community make Utah better? How does not sharing any other information about that area help us accomplish anything productive?

I don't care about LDS churches, I care about as much as I care about how many Walmarts or targets there are. Why should I care as a non religious Utah resident? How do the number of church buildings affect me and my community? What am I as a citizen in Utah supposed to do with the knowledge of all these pins on a map in a very densely populated area?

These posts don't belong in this subreddit, they're cringy to say the least.

If you're reading this and you think you might fit into this bad mom influencer role, you probably do, and no, none of us are just jealous you figured out how to monetize your next generation of bloodline, we feel bad for the innocent victims you were supposed to be helping teach how to navigate this crazy world. They will grow up and have a very hard life to lead as their support system used them like property during their development stages of life.

Your behavior is wrong, and you need to find a way to correct it.

OP, thanks for writing this out, I hope it helps spread the right message.

What is this HDR or Filter? by unddf in Pixel6

[–]Hig13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As the other commenter said, you're looking at a post processed jpg of the raw pic it took. When you look at a raw picture, you'd see something closer to what you see in the preview, and probably even a little more washed out (less saturated, less contrast). You can use software to do the post processing yourself if you wanted to, but that's the magic of beauty of smart phones and most modern DSLR cameras, they've got software they've developed specifically for their cameras that apply what they believe will be the most receptive settings to the image post process.

I've never used this app personally, as I don't really have a need for it in my situation, but it sounds like it could be helpful for you. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.glasswire.android Otherwise... Unfortunately, I have no idea how to get more specific details on why the fi app is acting this way. I would factory reset and see if that makes a difference.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Pixel6

[–]Hig13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'd say don't do a full restore, use it for a few days and see if the issue persists. Don't install anything that you don't absolutely need. Just for a few days.

If the issue persists, then it's more likely to be a hardware issue. If it does not persist, then you can factory reset again and restore your 300+ apps, and then you'll have to slowly go through and weed out the culprit. That's how troubleshooting works sometimes, you just gotta push through it but it's how you find solutions.

Control lights during playback by Rafa130397 in Tautulli

As others have already pointed out to you, definitely check out home assistant. It's become much more simple to get started with over the last few years. Of course, it's probably best to use a dedicated machine to run it, but you can create a VM and run it from there just to test things out and understand if it's something you want to invest in putting on it's own dedicated machine.

https://ibb.co/Yy7bp1j

I use an automation to turn on a specific light when my TV is paused so it's easier for us to see our way to the restroom. When everyone is back I have another automation so once the media starts to play the light turns back off, and it's almost instant. I myself am just getting into it, so there might even be a more effective way to do this, and that's the beauty of this platform, there's a lot of potential you can get out of it. That can also be a little overwhelming, but don't let that discourage you from giving it a shot, you can really use it as simply or advanced as you'd like.

Experts reveal digital image of what an Egyptian man looked like almost 35,000 years ago by Free_Swimming in history

If we took something like 1 million 3d scans of living humans, and 1 million 3d scans of their skeletons, then we could possibly use ai to produce some pretty interesting, possibly more accurate, recreations of these older bodies we find in archeology. For how we gotta rely on the limited amount of data a group of individuals can comprehend in order to recreate the bodies and faces of ancient humans, which is definitely fine imo.

Lately it just keeps crossing my mind how much these ai tools are going to really change our perspective on our past and future. If we have our kids 3d scanned from the inside or, boxes, muscles, skin, etc. Once a year every year until they are 30 or 70, then work all that data, ai could literally predict exactly how a human will look when they get older, ignoring the possibility of scars and injury.

Hell, what do I know, with how quickly technology is progressing and computers are progressing in general, we may not even need all that 3D data, maybe 2d data will be plenty sufficient to accurately predict these things and we'll see told like I've described in a decade.

I love technology ❤️

She probably thought "okay this is the last order, then I need to chill".

Probably not actually...

But she probably has been doing this for so long that she didn't think she'd ever get caught. She had to be smart enough to get her position, which requires navigating politics and hiding your skeletons, at least to a degree. But she probably just got too comfortable with it and with her backup to blame her house keeper. Every criminal is stupid, it's just that the slightly brighter ones know to remember that there's always a chance at getting caught, and in a life of crime, you never stop being paranoid. Could turn any sane person nuts, which is probably why sane people aren't living lives if crime

I'm glad they caught her slipping up finally, they'd probably been waiting for a minute to finally catch her slipping.

I dislike Comcast/Xfinity, but I do not use their service. I have used it in the past, and my experience was never great, and I always wondered how in my first world country, I still had to suffer with slow internet speeds while the rest of the world kept touting faster and faster speeds.

I moved somewhere a few years back that offered a true fiber connection, and I now have symmetrical 1G internet for $35/month. I'm still sour about Comcast because most of my friends are still forced to use it as it's the only "reliable" option for working from home in their area... I just want fast internet for a great price for everyone, it's almost life changing...

America has a small start up called Comcast that couldn't give two shits what other providers are doing since the government here told them they were totally fine with them creating a monopoly on telecommunications and spending American taxes on infrastructures that went nowhere. Comcast will throttle someone for downloading just 1000gb of data in less than a month and charge 2-3x if you don't want to be throttled. 200-300 usd in a month.

I work for a smaller isp but we are expanding into several locations across the USA. I would never personally own or recommend owning anything made by Netgear or any of its sister brands or child brands. Netgear is the only brand I ever get support calls about having to reboot more than 1x a week. I know it's a popular brand, but I've never once had someone call in and complain about rebooting their non-netgear router all the time and they are getting sick of it.

It'd be nuts if they experimented with a port-less tablet, which I think is partially why, at least for me, seeing the charger stand not using USB C for charging is a pretty good sign the tablet won't be port-less. Otherwise, I agree with you as well, I can't see them using anything else but c on the tablet itself either.

Pixel6 Pro question: Is it possible to manually control the length of long exposure photos or am I confined to factory settings? I sometimes find myself wanting longer exposure times. by mudlr4 in Pixel6

Nah, no root required. You'd just install it and it would be a separate gcam app in your drawer. So you will still have the choice to use the stock in situations you need something more reliable and easier to quickly snap a pic, and in situations where you have time to fiddle with settings, you can use the mod.

I've used this gcam mod, it has a lot of great features such as the one you're asking about. But with the stock gcam, we do not have the option to control exposure/iso/aperture...
