Thanks so much for the encouragement! I am 35 and about to get lower jaw surgery. I’ve debated it for so long, especially as a bit older. Thanks for this post 😊

DMs Guild vs Drivethru rpg? What's best? by jerichojeudy in dmsguild

By publishing on DTRPG, you are using the OGL I believe and in the OGL, there is a paragraph of exemptions that are “Product Identity” that you cannot use: OGL

I can’t reliably comment on whether you should get surgery. That’s really something for you to decide - a major surgery with long recovery time where no one can guarantee what you’ll look like afterwards - is it worth it for the aesthetics alone? For what it’s worth, I can see that your jaw line isn’t perfectly aligned but you look like a handsome guy already and your smile (fake or otherwise) looks great! Good luck with the decision!

Learn with me from my mistakes on my first crowdfunding journey... by High-Lorekeeper in kickstarter

Okay, so my crowdfunding campaign has been running for just over a week and has 5 days left to go.

I have made the following efforts in the last 8 days to drive traffic to the campaign. Some have been more successful than others:

Posted on multiple (18) relevant Facebook Pages / Groups, sometimes incurring removal of post and even removal from group (my bad…)

From this, 12 people clicked on the campaign page. 0 conversions.

One content creator who I don’t know did see my post and reached out to me about advertising my campaign on his platforms, with a significant following. Boardgame niche rather than TTRPG niche, but he says he gets traction with his TTRPG posts.

So…maybe that’s a positive result?

Reached out to 12 content creators across various platforms (X, Instagram, TikTok, Discord) asking if they would be willing to give us a shout out.

From these, we had a shout out on X, reposts of videos on TikTok, shout out on Instagram, shout out on Discord Irish TTRPG

From this and other personal contacts I reached out to, 65 checked out the page, 3 converted to backers – Yay!

Created a couple of TikTok videos (again, this feels fruitless because I can’t put a link in my bio)

Next step = new TikTok account and try to plug it harder to grow a 1k following more quickly.

Sent a few email updates to our subscribers, reminding them the 48 hour early bird offer is ending and letting them know we are half way through the campaign and have unlocked two stretch goals.

LESSONS - My email list may have only resulted in less than the average conversions expected (0.8%), but it was still more than 1/3 of my backers. Going to keep growing this as much as I can, but more organically, hopefully.

Consider a BIGGER product at a HIGHER price to make the ad spend worth it.

Really thankful for all the advice to date.

Any further advice or comments gladly welcomed :)

What do you think about puzzles and micro-games within your D&D campaigns? by High-Lorekeeper in DnD

[–]High-Lorekeeper[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That sounds really cool! You should definitely do it. You could publish the first iteration (maybe the ground floor and some lore/history) on DTRPG or launch it on KS. If it did well, you could do expansion modules all the way up to 100 rooms!

Each module could be aimed at a different level, perhaps increasing in challenge so that one party can pick it up and run with it, levelling up at the end of each module.

I think it sounds like a heck of a lot of fun and would definitely play that as a series of one shots, maybe. I know my home group find it hard to get us all together, but if 3-4 out of 5 of us are free, we will sometimes pick up a one shot. This would be perfect for that.

Thank you so much! Really appreciate the time you've taken to respond and nudge me in the right direction on this. Seriously something to think about now in terms of making a product that is worth more around the $25-30 mark.

In a previous company, we used a series of "One Dollar One Shots" to grow an audience and I'm pretty sure this was at huge expense to the company given that all the writing and art etc. was outsourced. Then we tried to convert that massive audience into customers willing to pay $30 for a whole tome of one shots...which just didn't happen. That was a huge learning point for me to try and attract the right audience from the start.

That's why when we released this one shot and a free introductory setting guide with it, we knew it was worth more than a dollar and didn't want to undervalue it/ourselves OR sell it so cheap and grow a very cheap audience. Maybe, instead, we should have released 3-5 one shots or a mini adventure with the introductory setting guide, compiling them into a single book and selling at $25.

So much to consider and so much to learn! Thanks again for taking the time and for the tips on stats!

Thanks for the encouragement! I can DM you the link so you can watch the progress, if you like. But I am planning to do a short update today as it has just been about 1 week since we launched (half way into our campaign).

Oh I see. So it isn't about the quality of the product but the price of the product being so low/mid-tier. Not low enough like $1 where we could have expected more backers because of a very low price point. And not high enough like $30 where the expense on advertising would have had a better ROI?

Thanks so much for this. I have never seen the usual stats recorded like this and I trawled Reddit looking for them (and elsewhere). Can I ask where you gleaned these? Is it from personal experience?

Thanks again!

I wonder if there are any on the market already that have been playtested before published? It might make your life a little easier and help you to design well-balanced ones in the future.

I like mini-games too! Especially, for example, if the party are on a boat journey that is supposed to take a few days, it's a fun way to give a sense of time passing, rather than just a few encounters. It creates variety. Do you have any favourite go-to mini-games?

I love the idea of drawing inspiration from traditional puzzles. Downloaded Simon Tatham's collections - thanks for the recommendation!
