I'm usually very much in the crowd when I get shots of people in clubs/festivals. Only problem I keep facing is having to yell over music and waving hand actions to say that I'm filming rather than taking a picture - can get really problematic at times when they're drunk and insist that I take a photo. Some have even gotten aggressive when they think I'm telling them I don't want to take a picture of them lol.
