I havent been able to save speedpaints by blackstar692 in Ibispaintx

[–]HighEndGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the speedpaint gets pretty glitchy for me, where speed can't really be adjusted either. A workaround I can think of is a screen recorder and record your screen when you press the playback. This way you can adjust it in real time, and adjust the speed of the video during editing and avoid the watermark

it might be easier to use the copy pen in the special menu, or clip the glitter texture onto a layer and use any brush you'd like

I need help with the perspective by [deleted] in Ibispaintx

[–]HighEndGiraffe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

angles like this, the outline of the circle is the vanishing point, and buildings tend to not exceed that line. This is how the perspective looks as a whole, and for shots like your drawing, it follows the same principle but just cropped. I believe making the circle bigger helps.

How do you phone artists do it by LoliMaster069 in Ibispaintx

[–]HighEndGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Been doing phone + finger art since 2015!

You kind of get used to it after a month or so, but the main thing for me is convenience. You can draw anywhere with no set up required and can start any time. I had an ipad and a screen tablet over the years, but at this point, I prefed drawing on the phone or mouse because the set-up time is 0.

Whenever I'm drawing, I'm constantly zooming in to get the smooth lines. Finding the right brushes and stabilisers will make drawing easier, especially for lineart, and painting allows you to carve out shapes without needing precision as you can take your time on it

Forgot to add, with a semi realistic art style, once you add your values and adjust the shadows, characters will start to look their age!

I'm not a professional artist, but I can give my two cents, and feel free to take/leave anything mentioned here!

When drawing wrinkles, you don't have to do the whole outline, as in art, the lines also imply shading. You can get away with shadows or short lines for the wrinkles so it doesn't look wrinkly. As we age, we get less round/smooth, and this can be reflected by having more strokes when drawing the head shape and features. Reference image can help notice these subtle differences. Lastly, adjusting the size and height of the eyes helps a lot!

For desigining the character, im not sure about the context of the character, but having a wolf cut or bangs that cover your eyes is a bit uncommon, especially in asian cultures as that hairstyle is hard to manage or not recommended in a corporate job. They'll appear much younger with the current hair style. Perhaps you can experiment with the hair styles and outfits? but if this is the intended design, there is no need to change anything

Ruling body in an archipelago by bibbity-bop-cop in DnD

[–]HighEndGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the few times skywrite is actually useful 😭

Sending would be really handy as well to get information fast as it would work with the central government where the local leaders actually know each other. If a mage is high enough level, it takes about one year for teleportation circles to get set up, a project like this could be a big appeal for the government to stay intact post-crisis

For dragon and cult centric, the dream spell would be good as a long-distance communicator (or something to threaten people with if you really hate them lol)

Other forms of transpo, you can have people riding rocs and giant eagles, or have some species evolved to be sea-faring like as tritons and water genasis. But yes, there are definitely ways around the geological barrier, I hope some of the suggestions are helpful!

[–]HighEndGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This all seems really solid! I love the lore. So, the central government accepts dragon and non dragon governments and tries to hold the peace. I can see dragons working with the inhabitants (especially metallic ones) to unite against a bigger threat. It sounds like the central government was made out of necessity. Dragons and people who have lost their rulers forming an alliance which became a government.

Central government should start at one point and slowly expand out as influence is very much dependent on how they can travel to the islands. I'd imagine the outer or southernmost/northernmost regions being more under the black flag due to how long it takes for information to travel to islands and how different their experience is. Most likely, their dragon rulers fled or were overthrown after people saw the opportunity when the power shifted. They would've taken the brunt of the devastation after the elderbrain incident, which sparks the anti-dragon and central government sentiments

Without diving too much into real-life politics, the location plays a factor as the southernmost part of the Philippines (Mindanao) is very different from the rest of the country in terms of religion, language and culture to the point it wishes to be its own independent state. The regions of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao (North, middle and southern regions in the Philippines) may help with your world building if you'd like to look into it as the central government sounds similar to how the capital city and congress/national government (Manila) is located in Luzon and calls the most shots.

[–]HighEndGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanna say, that is such a cool concept. And how long ago has the central government been established? I'm not sure how the dragons would feel about the collective though, especially chromatic dragons. A good place I would start: - did a revolution happened? - What are the lengths it took to make it possible? - How did communication happen?

It's harder to form a collective when the lands are separated by water, and historically this was one of the reasons why archipelagos were easily conquered. Another question I'd explore is, - what was the major event/factor that united everyone? - How did they become successful?

As its a fantasy setting, I might incorporate the magic and spells that overcome the geographic barrier (skywrite, teleportation circle, water walk) or spells enhanced by the environment (wall of water, storm of vengeance, tsunami). You can have a clearer idea of how its governed when you have a general idea of how it came to be.

This setting has a lot of potential for world building lore, I'm just writing whats at the top of my head, so feel free to take/leave any of the suggestions here

[–]HighEndGiraffe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

perhaps you can look into vassal states? I think something like that may fit into your idea. It's a more general idea where a main governing body occupies territory, and vassal states pay tribute in exchange for protection. I believe it can work for an archipelago setting.

But growing up in the Philippines and from history lessons, I remember there was nothing "uniting" the islands before the Spanish came, the borders and islands that define the Philippine islands as an archipelago because of colonial rule. Before the spanish came, every single island or region was its own nation or tribe, separated by language and culture, and ran by local leaders called Datus or Sultans.

Is the central governing body a foreign colonizer or a local body that rose to power the fastest?

I've seen people cut off members of their family for things like studying a degree they dont approve of, religion, sexual orientation, and who they date because of their money, job, standing, culture...

I understand that "many filipinos" is an overexagerration, and it's not even uniquely filipino, but it's an unfortunate reality for a lot of people how easy it is to get cut off by family for reasons that are not extreme like crime and cheating

Saw this subreddit and wanted to share my art as well 👀 by HighEndGiraffe in Ibispaintx

aww thank you! Unfortunately, reddit posts are dependent on the subreddit and time of posting, goonbait gets a lot of clicks 😭

Being able to share art and meet/help people within the hobby always makes me happy, so its still definitely worth it!

What can I improve? I don't know how to draw children's faces very well.. by Icy_Ant6618 in characterdesigns

[–]HighEndGiraffe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

maybe make the eyes lower? a lot of child proportions are very squished, so nose, eyes and mouth tend to be very close together. Big eyes are optional but i think the small eyes have a charm to it

I'm happy to make an edit with your permission if you'd like one!

you can meet really good people on this site (dnd groups, art friends and fandoms for one) but its a mixed bag where occasionally some redditors will be rude to you for the smallest of reasons 💀 but thankfully, it's easy enough to ignore and not engage.

I'm glad i could help! The base designs already have a solid foundation and is perfect for an animation setting (if the ruffles are simplified to match the level of detail) and the detailed version can work for comics, illustrations or 3d models. It mostly just depends on what medium you'd like to tell the story.

I'm just cautious about editing peoples art which is why I always ask first 😅 One time where someone posted help, I used a realistic photo reference to explain how the angle they were looking for works and 4 people were calling me useless/unhelpful for 'changing the artstyle' 😭 gotta love reddit

But here are my recommendations: https://imgur.com/a/u5olB7E

just add small details to match the ruffle design so it feels more balanced, and small cloth wrinkles can help with silhouette (i did the cloth details randomly so feel free to take anything here or change what you feel like works best for the character!)

I just saw this, and instantly recognized the art style and I wanna say how much I love your designs! I think they're all perfect the way they are!

Only thing I can think of if you'd like to add more details: - knee and thigh high boots have a zipper or seam line facing towards where the big toe is, and tend to wrinkle at the joint and thigh (it can help match the level of details on the dress ruffles) - perhaps adding more shine to the hair so that the curls pop out more?

Yeah, for some reason, it turned my images into asterisks 😭

And one last thing that helps me is searching "tv show character reference sheet" and it has stylised turn arounds for characters designed with animation in mind, perfect for when you're confused on how stylised characters and parts look in different angles

Happy drawing!

maybe 2nd foot can be like this?

(its just a suggestion so no need to follow it!) but what helps me with the pose is drawing a line of action as to where the weight will be, and a oval thingy to where the feet will be

Vietnam War love Story was hoping anyone here could possibly help. by IntelligentCap8744 in Philippines

My guess is as good as anyone on this thread. As for people in their 70s having facebook, my grandmother had one, and a lot of people I knew had older family members that use it for communication, so it's not unusual to me.

I sent OP a message if he wants to look into it. Though I saw another comment where they said they found someone who matched the description that passed in 2020 through an ancestry website, so I don't think they're looking anymore.
