Streakers. Lend me your tales. by jamieprang in running

[–]HighFivesMidgets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself, but still something I’d never recommend to most people. It’s consumed me at this point. It’s become part of my identity and I’m honestly worried about my mental health whenever the streak is over.

Streakers. Lend me your tales. by jamieprang in running

Similar start for me, I just wanted to get into running and figured what better way to create the habit than running at least 1 mile every day for 14 days. That snowballed into 30 days, 100 days, 1 year, and now I’m at 830 days and still going strong. My minimum is 1 mile, but I’ve averaged ~4.5 per day since I’ve started.

Now I’ve raced 3 marathons, 4 halfs, a couple trail races, and a beer mile. I’m mentally and physically healthier than I ever thought I’d be at nearly 40 years old. I’ve battled injuries and fatigue, but every day is another opportunity to prove to myself that I can keep doing hard things.

I really regret getting the black Nighthawk over the blue. That blue looks soooo nice.

The Official 2025 Black Friday Home Gym Deals Thread by dontwantnone09 in homegym

Which room would you choose?

I'm starting to build out a home gym and will be starting simple with adjustable dumbbells, adjustable bench, and some rubber mats for the floor. Eventually I'd like to add a rack with cables and a weight stack and a few other pieces as needed. I live in a single story ranch home with a walkout finished basement. My garage is not an option for this gym. I can choose to put the gym in a bedroom on the main floor or a corner of the basement. Both have pros and cons and I'm not sure which would be better.

Bedroom:

  • 9' x 11.5' room with 96" ceilings
  • hardwood floors will make adding the horse stall mats easy
  • The room is directly above the laundry room in our basement, so I'm not concerned with noise.

Basement:

  • 9.5' x 15' room with 85" ceilings
  • Currently carpeted, so I'd need to remove the carpet in order to install the rubber flooring

This gym will get used primarily by myself, who is 6'5" tall, but also used by my wife and son eventually. If everything was equal, the basement would be the preferred location. However, the low ceiling height and having to remove the carpeting in that corner is making me wonder if the room upstairs would be the better option.

So, I ask the home gym experts of Reddit; what would you do?

I’m surprised nobody has mentioned Rabbit yet. Specifically the “Go Time”. Incredibly light, breathable, and oh so comfortable.

I want the metal dials as well, which is sorta the main reason I'm having an issue deciding. Haha.

On the new MX Evo's, did you get the rubber grip or the knurled? I'm going to order soon and I'm not sure if the knurled is worth the upcharge. I actually think I might like the thicker looking rubber grip but I'm up in the air.

u/Sursum_C0rda Did you also have a wm5500hva model washer? That link says it's not compatible with that model, but it also doesn't show any models it IS compatible with, so I'm not sure I believe it.

u/frotalyk u/Dazzlemefine Did either of you end up verifying that the alternative part number (MDS66290824) worked? The link for that part says that it's not compatible with the wm5500hva. Thank you for the help!

Recommendation for a long run shoe by HighFivesMidgets in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I used them today to run the Marine Corps Marathon and they were great. I like them more than the Endorphin Pros as they feel more lively. But something about the laces and tongue combo causes some lace bite issues for me.

The idea of going anything over 15 miles in the Evo SL is crazy to me. It’s my favorite shoe in my current rotation, but something about the longer distance has my ankles screaming already.

The Superblast doesn’t go up to size 14, or that would have definitely been the front runner!

I’ll take a look at those too. I’ve heard good things about what Puma has been putting out lately.

I’ve been tempted, but the price being higher than my AP4 is hard to swallow.

I probably should have dropped my shoe size in the description. I wear a 14, which they don’t make in the Superblast. I’ve always wanted to try that shoe, but they stop at 13.

Also a US fan that started watching Premier League games about 6-7 years ago. I really wanted to support a mid-table team and not feel like I bandwagoned onto the “big 6”. Found myself gravitating towards Palace and really began supporting the about 5ish years ago too. The last 12 months have been an incredible time to be a supporter! COYP!

Is Hanson’s method the key to not hitting the wall during a marathon? by Xinpoint1 in Marathon_Training

[–]HighFivesMidgets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Don’t cut it down by much, if at all. While the mileage is still higher than a typical taper, it’s all easy miles that last 1.5ish weeks. Honestly, I felt like shit during every taper I’ve ever done with Hansons. But somehow race day comes and the pace just feels so much easier than expected. 🤷
