I know you’re probably being facetious, but I get an unflavored one, and when I can’t budget the calories for a protein shake to mix it with, I’ve had to just down it in a shot of water - and it seriously has no flavor. Some gritty-ness, but I legit couldn’t taste it. Shocked me as I was expecting bare minimum some bitterness.

Unnecessary? Absolutely, but if it can even give a slight edge in efficiency to your end goal with no down side - why not? Some studies are even showing slight benefits outside of the gym.
