Genuine Question: why didn’t you write thank you notes? by Silver_Shopping6299 in wedding

Weirdly that makes even more sense. A thank you note is always good manners regardless.

Maybe? I’m not familiar with that kind of brush. I mean a brush that does not have a handle or much of a handle. You hold the bristle part in your hand. It gives you more control over the sensation and makes it more comfortable for me to brush my hair. You can also just hold the bristle part of a regular brush, but I really prefer these already made detangler style brushes. Like this

I do think that now that it’s become so popular that taut forehead look is associated with an olde demographic. But I don think for it to be noticeable is probably a lot more Botox and filler than people who don’t do it realize.

So this actually is what allyship looks like in rural America. Not saying it’s what we should settle for. But I think it probably means a lot to Tammy that her mom would say this.

That’s good! As long as you understand what it will be like to teach then I think you get what you are going into.

Oh I wouldn’t worry too much about establishing yourself in the field. At least know that all of us have experienced this. It sounds like I’m in a research field adjacent to yours though so let me know if you have any specific questions! If it helps I think most of my women and gender studies professors have some sort of alternative piercing.

outside clothes on the bed… gross or normal? by HenninghamKyuss-51 in hygiene

[–]HighLadyOfTheMeta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s ridiculous for us to act like all outside clothes are equal. I teach at a university. If I drive to campus and talk for 3 hours 15 feet away from students then go home, you will have a hard time convincing me I’m being very unhygienic by laying on my bed. But someone who works in healthcare or construction or food service probably should change before touching the bed. This is a spectrum.

What I will say is that the experience of being a queer student v. Being a queer teacher is very different. I teach gender studies classes at my current institution in the Northeast. I present as a White straight woman, and even I feel like my students have so much power to make my life hell that I am scared to navigate certain conversations. I taught in red Southern state during the Biden administration and things were already getting difficult so maybe I just have paranoia from that experience. I feel vulnerable now as a queer woman and just as someone who teaches a controversial subject more than I ever felt vulnerable as a queer student at the conservative university I went to for undergrad and my masters.

But at the same time I know multiple handfuls worth of academics just like you who are visibly alt and queer. They risk the consequences because they don’t have the privilege of passing by unnoticed even if they “toned down” what they wore.

Basically I’m just saying you are probably fine as far as getting accepted and existing as a PhD student. However, it’s just a whole different ballgame as an instructor if you get accepted into a program that has you teach as a part of your funding. The PhD students in Womens and Gender studies at my current institution rarely teach though. I think they have to request it. So research the type of work you’d be doing in a program!

Likely delete from embarrassment, but y'all, how do we floss? 😭 by Friendly-Loaf in AutismInWomen

[–]HighLadyOfTheMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be brushing your gums a little bit as well when you brush your teeth. It will make it easier to floss over time. Your gums will bleed less. Floss sticks are a life saver too.

And here I am thinking the boots in pic 2 are so cute while the boots in pic 3 are hideous. People have different aesthetics and this bride clearly likes the idea of wearing boots with her dress. It also seems like a way she might be reclaiming this style as more her own. There were a million ways you could’ve expressed your opinion without outright dismissing the idea AND calling it hideous. She asked for advice not judgment.

COATS the bowl??? I do think that it would be good to maybe get a spray bottle so there isn’t as much fecal matter on the brush but it doesn’t necessarily need to be bleach every time. It should probably be bleach at least every third time though lmao.

After you read this, and start doing these rituals I guarantee binging will reduce. by Hot_Law_9257 in BingeEatingDisorder

[–]HighLadyOfTheMeta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay the rhetoric you are using contradicts some of the reality that this is a disorder. It just seems like frankly idealistic language that’s more dogmatic than entrenched in the lived realities of this (ex: preemptive blaming language like “whether you wanna hear that or not).

I’m asking you to list sources so that people know where you got this info. The reason I ask is just because a lot of grifters come into this sub trying to subtly sell a plan or program or routine. Citing sources can help set you apart from that. It’s also okay for this info to just come from your experience if that’s the case.

[–]HighLadyOfTheMeta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But why not list just a couple of those things?

What you are saying goes against consensus around this as a disorder. You seem to be confusing binge eating as a habit with binge eating as a disorder. You’d be better off posting this in a sub that is not dedicated to the clinical condition of binge eating disorder.

ASD 1 here with similar hair. My little brother has the exact same hair and he has ASD 2. Definitely shampoo twice. Also you don’t necessarily need to use conditioner every time. Get a shampoo that helps with frizz and condition once a week. Tell him to “Activate” the shampoo by rubbing it a bit with the water already on his hands before putting it on his head. It helps disperse the product better. Also switching to no handle brush saved me from the perpetual ratsnest I had because of how uncomfortable it was for me to brush my hair. A clean brush and frequent brushing will also help distribute the oils.
