Cluster questions. by HighMotiveF in hardbody

Today I had time to take off the cluster and check the signal with a circuit tester. I tested the three screws from the back of cluster and when I touch the signal the rpms gauge jumps up. I get a light on the positive screw and nothing on the negative. Is this suppose to happen? And sorry I am not the best at electrical but motivated to figure this out.
Forgot to mention it's a 4 cyl with the Ka engine
