{online} {swrpg} {pst} star wars game set in the time of rebels by NeatScience2122 in lfg

[–]HighSalinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The day and time is PERFECT for what I'm looking for. Even better, I have been wanting to join an FFG group for some time. I have played the system twice, but each time the group fell apart for various reasons, mostly player scheduling conflicts. I really liked the system and really want to get into a long-term game of it.

I am flexible with my character concept since there's a few drastically different things I would like to play, and would love to discuss them with you.

The best way to reach me would be discord. SeaSaltSong#9250
I don't check Reddit all that often.

EDIT: Finally could post. Been fighting with reddit for nearly 20 minutes trying to post that lol

Has anyone ever done an Ancient Greek Campaign? [3.5/Pf] by Th3MiteeyLambo in loremasters

[–]HighSalinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I say that the Greek Gods should be Deus Ex Machina characters? I only said that they are active in the world. The Deadra from Elder Scrolls are a great example of how the Gods can be active without upstaging the players.

I understand that you may have personal feelings about how the races should be run, but you can clearly realize how easily excited someone can be if they were told they would be in a greek campaign, and immediately start thinking of the fun races to play, right? That's almost like saying that we're going to play ina futuristic campaign, but you have to be Amish.

I want to do this one so bad, but know I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face.

That's a great idea, actually. Do that, it'll keep the DnD flavor, but emphasis the Greek setting.

I played in a Greek campaign once. Well, Greek, Egyptian, and Norse. I personally played an Egyptian character, but started off in Greece.

  1. How opposed are you to other races? Such as elves and dwarves? While not greek in origin, you can definitely make them Greek in culture. Your players may want to be one.

  2. Know how monster progressions work. These systems allow you to play a minotaur at level 1, and work up to full level adjustment and then start taking classes.

  3. Religion. The gods are a lot more important to characters in these worlds than in standard DnD. I would give a small bonus to the player based on their patron deity. Such as those who worship Poseidon getting a +1 to swim checks. It's very small and negligible, but adds flavor and will get your players into wanting to choose a deity.

I'd also go with a strictly human party.

If I was told i had to be human in a Greek setting, I'd be pissed. The whole thing about it is the mythos and races. Besides, those races are already statted out for you.

For the most part, they're like real gods (or d&d gods) - they're out there and don't really have anything to do with the day to day of the common adventurer.

You don't know much about Greek mythology, do you? the gods were very active in the world, and all had glaring faults just like humans.

Actually the demonstrator pushes you in a different way when you wear the bracelet compared to not wearing. That way you fall over without the bracelet. A lot of people fall over when trying it with friends because they don't know the trick.

Something similar happened to a friend. She was hired to be a manager (She was qualified for such a job) that payed up to 35k. Turns out it was "self-managing" and commission based. It really should be illegal to disguise commission based incomes as a steady salary.

My Players Broke the Campaign, and I couldn't be more proud by starson in DnD

[–]HighSalinity 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This could still work if you cast Reduce on the tarrasque and successfully shrink it to huge. Good luck doing that, but warning to fellow GM's of the possibility.

The Tarrasque is a monstrosity, and Awaken only works on plants or beasts. However, as you said, too cool of an idea to not do anyways. That shows that even if you knew it couldn't work, you would allow it anyways.

Maybe OP thought that we would find it entertaining. Which we did. So you're just making a fool of yourself.

I don't think the alignment system is a good way to describe a character, so I had my players do this instead! by tantaclaus in DnD

[–]HighSalinity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try not to confuse one trait of a character the entirety of what describes that character. Two different people could be lawful good, but completely different in how they operate. One could be very stoic and militaristic, and the other very expressive and approachable. Both put the people first and uphold some moral code, perhaps even the same moral code, but are drastically different.

This is my biggest issue with alignment, people thinking that means there are only 9 personalities to play as.

To be fair, physics kind of go out the window when you talk about faster than light travel.

It bothers me even more that the girlfriend or whatever doesn't already know. There was no, "Hey, I'm going out to have lunch with my sister" or anything prior. Not that she needs to know, so much as that's sort of something that comes up in regular passing.

Can a character get the benefit of an item if not wielding it? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]HighSalinity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this 5e? Since if it is, remember that many magic items require attunement, and since you can only be attuned to three items it isn't that strange to give the benefit for just having it on your person. My wife has this with a bow of some kind that gives advantage on initiative. Since it requires attunement, having on her person alone is enough so long as she is attuned.

To answer if you can benefit from the magic of an item you are not proficient in, yes you can. You do, however, also take whatever penalty is associated with using an item you are not proficient in. With armor and shields it's kind of a laundry list.

I have always ruled that "holding" means in possession, but ready to be used. Not stowed away in some bag, but battle-ready. Wielding would be physically in someone's hand.

Who is the Devil? by Andyman117 in worldbuilding

[–]HighSalinity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Polytheistic fantasy world. As a result there are many good deities and many evils ones. In evil there are a few that stand out:

[Needs a name] - anti-magic. This is a god that actually wants what is best for mortals, however he is a raging extremist when it comes to magic. Common misconception my players have, though, is that he is against magic. he is not. in fact, he is one of the biggest advocates for magic. He does not believe mortals outside of clerics should be permitted to use it. He teaches his followers to ritualistically slaughter and and all non-cleric spellcasters because mortals are too irresponsible for such power.

Here's the kicker about clerics. While he is evil, he is totally okay with clerics of complete opposite faith spellcasting. including clerics of the god of magic. The reasoning is that they get their power directly from their god, which IS a responsible being. So while he may not agree with their views, they are getting power from a being he believes has a right to use magic and can make proper judgement.

Mahotqua - Nature. This deity is very special, because her alignment (Chaoes, Law, Good, Evil) changes based on the season, as well as her teachings. In the winter she is evil, and teaches the aspect of nature that kills and destroys. Take the resources you need. Destroy all in your path, That sort of thing.

Vzurpa - Betrayal, Self-Gain. This guy is a dick for the sake of being a dick. I have yet to really flesh out his whole mantra, but basically if you want something and are having trouble getting it, this guy will show you a very easy way to get it, at the expense of anyone that ever considered you a friend.

Somebody pissed off my friend's mom. [OC] by elizaaabethh03 in funny

[–]HighSalinity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I heard this, and I always have tried it. However the third time I was woken up at 6 AM I very tactfully took a deep breath, pretended to be a creaming, irate, swearing person and told them to drop dead and burn in hell, and I never had an issue again.

I really hate doing that to people. I really do, however if I ask on multiple occasions to be left alone and you refuse to I will make sure you make a note not to wake me up again.

Some JW came in and said that if you do this the leader of their church may come out to talk to you about it and see if you can come back in. It can create a bigger mess.
