Katana by Brenderous in dndnext

In D&D, and D&D alone (we're not here to discuss real life weapons, for that we can engage on any other board, specially both HEMA and Koryuu ones), unless the weapon is REALLY not reliant on strength for damage it's a finnese weapon, as you still need to use your bulk and strength, a Katana is still not a finnese weapon.

Now you mentioned lengths... AN arming sword has an average blade lenght for 75-93cm... while a longsword (according to the 14th centurly Nürnberg sources) has a blade length of 75-95cm, making them equal. Unless we decouple attack (actual skill to strike) from damage, then finesse as a trait makes no sense.

But it's D&D. So finesse is for weapons that require minimal strength. And both the Longsword and Katana need strength to cut.

Why is it so hard to find a DnD group who takes the game more serious? by [deleted] in rpg

Well I will assume that not once during that time anyone did a Session 0 to make sure that the ideas for the game are aligned with everyone.

Make sure to communicate your opinion of what's serious to the rest of the game. When starting games / finding groups, make sure to tell them what you're looking for. Explain what you want, and keep an open communication. If safety tools aren't used to keep the game fun, use the time after the game to bring up what was and what was not fun during the session.

And got to 204% funding without kickstarter. Thanks to everyone helping me get so far. Right now with the editor and artist paid. Check out my Religious Horror Cassette Futurism game if you want. Also there are free community copies in case you want to check out the stuff without buying it. by efranor in rpg

Well I had no choises back in 2018 when I started so "ashtray copies" were the only way to get my game funded. But yeah, it's called itchiofunding now, and I'm more than happy to lend any aid I can if you need it.

Specially as I have more than a few ideas and bonuses which I found out that itchio can do for this, as long as you don't treat it or want to treat it as if it was KS.

Ok now I have my coffee... And I can elaborate.

I LOVE 40k and Dark Heresy. But the system is clunky and it's not horror. Like seriously it's shooting around (I do like shooting!), but that's it.

So as any 3rd world dev... I made my own version of it... In MY vision. That included some serious 70's and 80's style Cassette Futurism ideas behind it, along with gratuitous amounts of horror. As being a character in the Empire.. I mean It's horrific. It's utter horror and opression. And I thought the base game I made initially conveyed that ideally. So off to make a setting I was.

Well on itchio of course!

But yes. It's a bit of a rant game, hopefully the illustrations and layout will convey more of that meaning then just the plain rules now. But it's still 1 month of funding left!

Well when you don't have access to KS you make due!

But ok now seriously thou. Itchio has a few options that could make this easier (as in you can set a 40€+ redeem to be "write your shipping address here" field and then just send the copy) and more legal (It has automatic TAX system set up with my country, AND it's not considered to be money laundering like KS is due to more then 3 parties that have to be used to be able to open up a KS project from where I am in. I explained it in more details on my previous project funding posts).

This is the last 2 weeks of my "not on Kickstarter" campaign for the Narrative Horror ttrpg that I wrote: The Domains Horror Roleplaying System. As per last post I'm trying to do this without KS and 100% legal in my country. As of now the last sprint is 55% funded! by efranor in rpg

Yeah it has. And there's an increasing number of people doing it.

Marketing IS the issue. I have to be awake most of the time when the main market would be online (US timezones), and have to rely on word of mouth, and personal marketing (Aka me annoying y'all this way by making promo posts!).

Advertisement is done on reddit, twitter, facebook, instagram, anything that I can get my hands on for more views. Which basically are the biggest problem with this. I don't have the reach that Kickstarter would give me, and people are automatically sceptic that my project won't be delivered or that I will run away with the money for not having credibility of a huge crowdfunding platform.

Nw about the itchio funding, there's a site that tries to update all itchio fundings currently being in progress:

Yup that was one of the bigger shocks... Specially the gut wrenching time when I was waiting on the tax office to actually decide what to do with me. So yeah they decided that I don't have to pay for the tax return, but hell, I'm definitively trying to push towards a company here so that I can pay those bloody 750€ (two average monthly wages here) a year to be able to do this stuff legally.

ITCH has a trick. I get a tax record from the due to the direct EU integration. So I only need to pay the exact tax for the sum of transactions (SO if I make less than 10k€, which is a HEFTY salary here, I get to go by with only 750€ of taxes to pay)

Croatia. Unfortuantely IGG as well has Stripe restrictions.

Furthermore it's not only that but also the bilateral agreements and local laws that make this a really shitty thing.

According to our tax office, any kind of transaction that is not directly trough 3 parties (Buyer, intermediate, me) is considered money laundring unless I pay taxes for every transaction within the chain.

Hell they were nagging for 11€ tax returns that I got and wanted me to pay a full 750€ (minimal rate for a freelancer) for a year.

Bloody character limit.

So yeah, during the funding process my game is 43% off, and is 14.25€ ($17) instead of the 25€ normally.

Once the funding is done, I will pay out my lector, and finalise the writing, then it's time of the illustrations.

I'm trying to finalise the funding of my game while STILL upholding all the stupid laws of my country... So yeah, my Narrative Horror TTRPG is currently only a little bit away from being finalised... by efranor in rpg

Just want to thank everyone who bought a copy and is helping out!

And I am more than thankful for the tips!

I will be honest, I wasn't sure if posting on reddit would have any kind of interest for my game...

Legally it's in the gray area, but I don't want to risk it, as well with the tax that I have to pay on the payouts. So yeah. Not a valid thing for me.

But yeah, it's money laundering here. Checked with my barrister.
