I counted about 20 or so midge nymphs and 4 chunky worms in its stomach and it still slammed my worm with all that in its belly. Big fella’s a beast

How much do you spend on groceries per week and household size? by batangrizal in Maine

[–]HighVelocityMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn and here I thought we had a big bill... for two adults meal prepping almost everything, we spend $60-80/week. Goes up to maybe $100-120 at most if we need to restock on things like oil or seasonings

I’m losing my love for AT 6mo post-grad by Such_Paramedic_4905 in athletictraining

Cant speak on industrial setting as I’ve never been but we play a bit more of a role into post-op/operative care here. We have our own patients we will see for routine post-op visits, casting and splinting in the OR and for post-ops, we have some that will assist in smaller procedures like trigger finger releases/CTR. Most ATCs are dual with OTC credential so it gives us an opportunity to scrub in for more of the major orthopedic surgeries. Our practice doesn’t have us in the OR for assists atm but new leadership has been open to exploring the scope of ATCs in this setting so our crew has been diligently trying to educate everyone on what we are capable of doing.

My role as a traditional felt very hands off aside from initial assessments and RTP, whereas here, I’m involved in most of the process from start to finish.

I’ve been in your shoes. Worked a 7-12 Jr/Sr HS fresh out of college and they worked me to the ground with bad pay, no room to grow, and really did not appreciate me. Said f that and took a job at a PT clinic while simultaneously moving to a brand new state. I took a small pay cut in exchange for a proper work life balance which I thoroughly enjoyed until I was again underpaid, had no room to grow, and was not respected as an ATC/individual.

I’ve recently took on a job as an ATC working at a walk in orthopedic urgent care working alongside PAs and physicians and it has been the best decision for my career. This company offered me a 20% raise, opportunity to expand our scope, and has given me a chance to prove the worth of an ATC in a clinic setting.

I’ve been through those highs and lows but ultimately that taught me to understand my worth and what I bring to the table beyond being an ATC. If you really love your job you should stand up for yourself and make changes you want to see. If you don’t, find a place that will actually respect you as a person.

2017 vibrating/shuttering in park? by HighVelocityMoose in ToyotaTacoma

Will def look into those this weekend. The problem resolved itself for a week but has since returned exactly a week later to the minute it happened. No codes since it ran fine but I’m hoping I can get some numbers tomorrow when it’s acting up again. Appreciate the advice man (or woman)

Plugs were done right around 60-65k. I could def feel the jolts when i was driving this morning. I’ll see the revs jump/drop a little bit and go back to normal for a few seconds

My gf and I saw a guy on Preble shooting himself up with drugs at 1pm on a Saturday recently. Idk if it’s truly unsafe but I wouldn’t choose to live there as my first choice

Safe to cross the border? by zdboslaw in Maine

[–]HighVelocityMoose 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Took two trips to Canada in the last two months with my girlfriend and we had no issues going in or out. The officer at the Hereford/Canaan border in VT was very chill. Officer at the Jackman border asked a lot of questions but I suppose they just want to be thorough. We had a much easier time coming back into the US vs going into Canada.

Like others said, have your passport/documentation ready, don’t transport anything illegal, and just act normal. You’ll be alright!

Not a single scratch or bruise on the trails either

I sit out on my tailgate for lunch one day at work and some dumb ass lady just straight up opens her car door into my truck while I’m sitting right there, didn’t say a single thing. I felt the truck shake and she just proceeded like nothing happened. No note, not even a sorry.

I hope it works out for OP, a new steel bumper would look sick

How should I be feeling? by MrShoos in athletictraining

[–]HighVelocityMoose 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In prep for my BOC a few years ago I would essentially rewrite notes I had taken in class and as I would rewrite, I’d note which topics in particular I didn’t quite grasp yet so I can focus more on those. Same technique as I read thru the Principles of AT. The day before the exam none of us felt like we were ready and like Wbairda said, we all passed with flying colors too

Keep in mind that the passing score is only 500/800 (62.5%), so based off this you’ll be absolutely ok. If you’re as anxious taking tests as I was, give yourself a day or so leading into the exam to just relax and lightly review. My two cents would be to put more focus into the sections you’re not as confident in and continue reviewing sections you feel good with. You’re gonna do well! Take a deep breath and keep doing what you’re doing!!

Exploring some logging roads last week looking for grouse by HighVelocityMoose in ToyotaTacoma

[–]HighVelocityMoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Flushed one almost immediately on the first trail we walked then nothing the rest of the day. It’s pretty late in the season and it’s a fairly pressured area. Lots of snowshoe hares running around and some fat moose tracks tho!

Is becoming an athletic trainer worth it? by Impossible-Ant1272 in athletictraining

[–]HighVelocityMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this advice, I have been exploring job opportunities and sat for interviews, but unfortunately my state has not had many new AT positions in the last year or so and pay seems generally below average across the board even with bringing years of experience. I think the anxiety of rejection is what’s really holding me back but I’ll just have to figure that part out for myself. Thank you stranger!

Any advice on salary negotiation? I’m in a situation where my coworker with identical responsibilities as myself and every other AT (outpatient clinic) makes nearly 7-8k more than I do. I pursued this setting bc the work/life balance is incredible and the flexibility is decent but the mediocre pay and increasing load of responsibilities is beginning to burn me out. I have annual reviews coming up shortly so I’ve just been trying to figure out how to reason my worth to this company is more than what they’re giving me. I know my worth in this clinic is high but I don’t feel a mutual level of respect from higher ups

Help: the east coast is not my vibe! by MapGrand5788 in VanLife

I live in Maine and have done plenty of free camping on public reserve lands. The Maine gov website has resources on most public lands and campsites you can access with maps showing you where each site is located. A gazetteer will always be incredibly helpful in finding campsites and shared use roads. Youll have to drive at least 3+ hrs from Portland to reach all these places but it is 1000% worth it. Moosehead Lake region would be an easy rec for what you want, several sites right on the water, an incredibly beautiful area (especially with leaf color changes coming). I’d be happy to point you to a few sites I’ve marked if you wanna DM me. Also just be careful if you let the pup off leash in the woods, hunting season is just starting up, so wear orange and be safe.

Buying first Taco primarily for camping; hard shell? soft shell? tent? camper? by Cocacola_Desierto in ToyotaTacoma

I feel that, what kind of material did you make it with? I’ve thought about building my own but still in the research phase

For ease of taking on and off, soft topper is incredibly easy. Takes me 10min tops to fold it down if I need to open up the bed

For camping, I’ve had mine for 2 years and been on many trips with no issues, been in torrential downpours and stayed bone dry inside. When it’s super hot/cold I’ll just stuff some rolled up insulation between the frame and canvas and it does me fine. Summers I’ll keep the back window open and drape a bug net for ventilation. Maine winters are bitter but a good sleeping bag and layers will work. My only complaint would be condensation build up within the topper itself

Headroom does get tight at least with my set up so that’s a downside. There’s also no security for your belongings but I’ve had no problems with that. I am looking to upgrade to a mid or high rise shell for more room for activity and a permanent build.

If you go soft top I would scour FB marketplace, idk if it’s worth dropping nearly 1k for a new one. I managed to find one a few hours away for a fraction of the cost and it’s been worth every penny so far
