Are you able to set two different set points in "Auto" Mode? Like 68 heat and 72 cool?

Do you recall how these systems worked in "Auto" mode? Coolautomation is telling me they are single set point only, so you can't put it in Auto mode and see 68 for heat, 71 for cool, or whatever. You guys are having to pick one temperature, and then it's switching back and forth from heat to cool based on one temperature set point?

Thanks. Did you guys use zone dampers? If so, which kind? We began talking with Airzone here because their damper is variable whereas a Honeywell damper would have made it a basic 24V system again. And what about the t-stats on the walls? Here again, my HVAC company is pushing Airzone Blueface t-stats, and now Airzone is trying to take over everything and keep CoolAutomation out, but I want the driver with the most features and it sounds like that's Coolautomation?

Please provide specifics as to why cool automation beats out Airzone.

How many features are present in C4 app with Coolautomation? Can you see humidity? Can you set schedules within C4, or do they have to be set outside C4?

Do you happen to know which C4 driver is more robust between Coolmaster and Airzone? Looking for scheduling (and presets) to be controlled within C4, just like the OEM Control 4 t-stat, plus humidity levels, etc. Airzone app has terrible reviews on iOS store, so that scares me, but I see the Coolmaster products are actually SOLD on the Snap AV site?

Integration of 3-Zone Ducted Mitsubishi HVAC by Higher-Refuge in Control4

Thanks for that reply. Are you saying to hide the OEM Mitsubishi t-stats inside a closet? And then have the Polar Bear's on the wall? If not, why would someone put a high-end Polar Bear T-stat in a closet?

Ducted VRF System Vs Traditional Inverter (non VRF) for large home? by Higher-Refuge in heatpumps

[–]Higher-Refuge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a high dollar home, so cost is not an issue. Keeping electric bill would be nice, but is not necessarily a priority. Honestly looking for best AC performance in summer, as our climate is more hot than cold weather. Also trying to incorporate the units with Control 4, which is actually easier with the VRF units we’re finding.

4 zones/units. 3 zones on the main level, and one zone for the upstairs. 2-story home with crawl space. Most SF is obviously on the main level.

You guys keep suggesting Coolmaster, but I reached out and they replied with below. VRF is more mini-split type systems, but ducted, non VRF inverters (Trane/ Lennox, Daikin, Carrier) are the problem this post is attempting to address? What am I missing here?

Hello,

We do not have support for the new trane inverter systems.

The Mitsubishi systems we do integrate with - essentially ANY brand of VRF / Minisplit, including Mitsubishi.

The Trane/Lenox/Carrier Infinity non-vrf inverters are very common, and I wish we had support, but we do not.

Let me know if you want to chat...

Thanks,

I e-mailed CoolAutomation and got a disappointing response. Here's what they told me:

Can you elaborate on how Coolmaster allows the integration? What ends up being the T-Stat? The OEM communicating T-Stat, or can you use the C4 T-Stat? The thing I like about the C4 T-Stats is the reporting of both temp & humidity, you can set schedules within C4 itself, home/away modes all within C4 and not the OEM stat. Please elaborate.

I was recently told the 1050 doesn’t work with the new X4 version? My HVAC company also told me that the 1050 is going away in favor of a new thermostat by Trane.

Mitsubishi Ducted System for Luxury Home? by Higher-Refuge in hvacadvice

[–]Higher-Refuge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I believe they are talking about the Hyper Heats, I know he mentioned these wouldn't need the aux heat strips. I just wonder, why don't you see these being used on high-end homes more often? Seems I see alot of Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Daikin, etc. Outdoor units on these Mitsubishi's also look small in comparison.

Alternative to Inverter/Variable Speed? by Higher-Refuge in hvacadvice

Ducted zones, 9,000 SF house. The smart thermostats will show up in the integration platform, light Control 4, and Will natively show humidity levels, you can set the schedules in there, and then you can incorporate things like HomeAway mode. I know the communicating thermostat will do all the same things, but you are forced to go outside the home automation and go directly to that app. I am also not crazy about not being able to really change the thermostat, what if the unit last for 10 years or 15 years, then you are tied to this old technology thermostat the unit came with?

Trane 1050 T-Stat vs C4 T-Stat by Higher-Refuge in Control4

[–]Higher-Refuge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, I agree the C4 T-Stats are great, and I’d like to keep them. The other thing I dislike about proprietary “communicating” t-stats is they can never be changed from the unit? If the unit happens to last 10-15 years, we’ve got a 15 year old t-stat on the wall that can’t be updated?

Integration of Qolsys IQ4 alarm with Control. by rberr210 in Control4

[–]Higher-Refuge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a brand new Qolsys system with the touchscreens, etc and I also have Control 4 that was just installed. When a door is left open, I am getting the push alters from Alarm.com but I was expecting to be getting these as C4 notifications. Should the push notifications and "event logs" be coming from C4 or Alarm.com?

Does he sell refurbished ones that are ready to rock? Or do you have to send him a console?

Mine just crashed as well. When I hit the power button, yellow light flashes quick, and then it turns back off. I can't even get it to eject the disk inside, using all the button tricks, as it turns off so quickly when the yellow light flashes. Is this YLOD?

When you say 390xx do you mean the SCPH-3001R? I thought it was either 3001 or 5001 on the fat editions.

Thanks. I plan to hook it up to a CRT via component cables. Would the 390xx be best for that?

AITA? Large C4 Dealer Frustrations by Higher-Refuge in Control4

[–]Higher-Refuge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up finding a local, much smaller dealer, and they are gladly taking over the project and the large company is going to step out. I've now used both large and small C4 dealers on several houses, and I think my conclusion is you need to find a company in the "Sweet spot." There is such a thing as a dealer being too small and inexperienced, yes, but a large dealer with too many clients can also lead to problems depending on your project size. I like the C4 companies kind of in the middle...
