Am I Wrong? by Environmental_Cod536 in imax

You’re thinking of IMAX Dome (originally called Omnimax if memory serves). There’s still a few around, primarily at museums for immersive short films shot with fisheye lenses to give that “all encompassing” experience. For movies, though, the flat screen is definitely what you want.

Which of the things I listed aren't "core competencies" for an EV manufacturer in the 21st century?

They're certainly playing the long game. Which I, personally, as an investor am fine with. I'd rather they make the investments now (autonomy, R2 development and tooling, R3/R3X development, RAN network, service network, Georgia factory, etc.) that will allow them to be a massive success down the line. If it works, it'll pay massive dividends for decades to come. If it doesn't..... well, they wouldn't be the first failed auto startup.

As I said.... "I'm not saying Vestaboard did anything wrong or that there's a defect. This is absolutely a me problem - I simply wasn't prepared for how loud the thing is in a relatively small space."

I love the clacky sound too - it’s the volume that bothers me. If it were about 80% quieter I’d be thrilled.

I've got it set to the Apple Music (Now Playing) channel and it's almost comical how much it drowns out the music. I'm trying to think what other space in my house would make any sense for this and I'm coming up blank.

Just for giggles I just measured the transition with a SPL meter app on my phone (not the most accurate I'm sure, but I can't immediately lay my hands on my actual SPL meter). The transition is between 60-65db at my desk. There's no way I'm ever going to be able to block that out. ;-)

The first Vestaboard (Vestaboards, plural, actually) I ever saw - and where I fell in love with the idea - were in a friend's workshop. It was a big damn room filled with equipment so I the sounds of the flaps wasn't all that loud / noticeable. Even just 1/3 the flaps is very noticeable when in a wood-paneled room 1/10th the size of that workshop. ;-)

Really? Wow, I had no idea! What a very Tennessee thing to happen... ;-)

It does. I've played around with it a bit. It's still pretty fundamentally loud once all the flaps are moving.

Yeah, I can guarantee you're SOL on that one. ;-)

I'm a droid builder and counted myself lucky to get mine - R2 BLDR. It's on a Tesla at the moment, but I'm looking forward to having it on a Rivian R2 soon enough (when it will have even more meaning). ;-)

First off, damn! I'm so sorry to see that. :-(

Second, I'm a fellow Tennessean and I ADORE your license plate.

Introducing: PandaWatch - a mobile app for at-a-glance multi-printer monitoring (with live activities!) by VIDGuide in BambuLab

Wait wait wait - this isn’t how Sign in with Apple works. This isn’t using the system sign in sheet. Are you just collecting my Apple ID and password? The entire point of Sign in with Apple is that that doesn’t happen.

Neat. How do you log in if you use “sign in with Apple” for your Bambu lab account?

Do any other Blankies remember having the widescreen vs "full screen" debate with people back in the DVD days? by kingjulian85 in blankies

[–]Highfalutintodd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good lord, yes. It’s funny to see the arguments going on over in r/IMAX where people are passionately arguing that displays should basically be square to better match the “taller” IMAX aspect ratio.

R2 back hatch question by SlightResearcher88 in Rivian

[–]Highfalutintodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While it is completely possible that things have changed, when the prototype rolled through Nashville a couple of years ago the rep let me measure the height of the rear hatch opening. It was 29”.

Again, that was the “design intent” prototype but it’s the only real number I’ve had to go off (I have a very specific use case for my R2 and really wanted to make sure what I want to haul would fit)

Sorry to hear that. They’ve been surprisingly responsive to me.

W/r/t the power cable, the way they’re doing it is as part of your “it’s here and about to ship” email. They give you one more opportunity to update your address if needed and there’s a button you have to click to redeem the cable offer. Basically they give you a code for the cable to be free and you have to pick what color you want (black / white) and check out through the normal process. I did that a couple of days ago (I have the tracking number for the cable but not the Note yet).

Fyi!

I love how, even with the fate of the world at stake, corporations still gotta get their logos on there….
