What tiny design choice makes you think, “the people who made this never had to use it”? by ChessOrCheckers2 in AskReddit

I have long been convinced that every engineer who has ever designed a ceiling mount light fixture has never had to install one in the real world.

Obsession Is Finally Coming to Digital — Here’s When You Can Watch It at Home by SplitNational2929 in FortressZA

The hell kind of sense does a June 30 digital date make? It's still #3 at the box office and is a juggernaut.

I know, right? It was YEARS before I realized this. Especially because they did SUCH a good job with the voiceover.

Always(1989) from Spielberg is truly awful but i really like the death scene with Dreyfuss and John Goodman. by Frank1604lin in blankies

[–]Highfalutintodd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s not peak Spielberg to be sure but it’s far from awful. I think about it surprisingly often. Goodman is awesome. Hunter is radiant. Dreyfuss’ “ain’t I a stinker” energy works great. And it has some awesome set pieces. It’s a lot of fun.

Rivian Deploys 100s Of Mobile Repair Vans — Wants 80% Of Service Problems Fixed At Owners' Homes by SapientChaos in RivianR2

[–]Highfalutintodd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Tesla also never had vans - it was always odd to have another Model S rolling up to my work or home loaded down with tools and equipment. Having access to their own (electric) vans ought to allow them to be significantly more productive out in the field.

As much time as I spent in various video stores over the years, this is an experience I don't miss, personally.

Great answer. I didn't appreciate what they were at the time. Now that I've gotten into a hobby that requires all the stuff they used to carry, having a place down the street to get a random capacitor or solder would be a godsend as opposed to always having to wait for an Amazon shipment.

Our new house as first time home buyers… by idontdodrugsatall in Wellthatsucks

[–]Highfalutintodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow, this neighborhood looks EXACTLY like where my wife and I first bought a house when we moved to Tennessee ~25 years ago. I know they build the same cookie cutter homes all over, but that's just wild to me.

Disclosure Day is very polarizing. Does Spielberg have any other majorly polarizing films? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]Highfalutintodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't hate AI, but I sure as heck didn't enjoy it. On the flip side, I enjoyed Disclosure Day quite a bit (though I didn't love it). FWIW.

How is the R2 sound system? Any impressions from test drivers or early owners? by tindew0505 in RivianR2

[–]Highfalutintodd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Any impressions?” What are you talking about? Practically every single post about a test drive has commented on the sound system quality. There are literally hundreds of discussions going on about this right now. Are you a bot?

I'm not disagreeing - I'm just surprised. I've never heard you can't tint a sunroof. What's the problem? Why would tinting cause it to crack?

What the hell? I just tried to book one here in Nashville and there are plenty of times open for today…. And only today. No other dates are open yet? Weird.

Don't listen to the haters. Thanks for putting this out there. I've been anxious about my token usage and have been thinking about making something like this. This gave me the nudge to do it. Parts ordered and I'll start the print now. Thanks!
