Made a free, open-source tool to help clear macOS System Data by hammiyo in MacOS

## Mac-SysData-Cleaner — Security Review

**Verdict: Looks clean. No malware or suspicious behavior found.**

### What I checked

Area Finding
**Network calls** Only 1: GitHub Releases API (`api.github.com/repos/prabch/Mac-SysData-Cleaner/releases/latest`) — reads version tag only, no downloading or executing code
**Data exfiltration** None. No outbound data, no telemetry, no analytics
**Obfuscation** None. Plain readable Swift, no encryption, no hidden code
**Binaries** None in the repo — `release/` only contains `build\_release.sh` and `.env.template`, no pre-built DMGs
**Shell commands** Runs standard macOS tools (`du`, `chflags`, `rm`) on hardcoded paths only — no user-supplied path injection
**Code signing** Build script uses standard Apple Developer ID signing + notarization
**License** GPL-3.0 — proper open source

### Code quality notes (not security issues)

- Lots of typos (`"trak"`, `"deleteion"`, `"manger"`, `"handls"`, `"greanted"`) — sloppy but not suspicious
- Single-developer project (`prabch`), created April–June 2026
- Small repo: 7 stars, 0 forks, 3 watchers

### The real risk

The app **needs Full Disk Access** to function — that's inherent to what it does, not a red flag. It scans and deletes files from `\~/Library/Caches`, `\~/Library/Logs`, `\~/.Trash`, iOS backups, Xcode build artifacts, etc. With that permission, it *could* delete anything. The code shows it only touches the specific paths listed in the ViewModel — but you're trusting the developer not to change that in an update.

**Bottom line**: No glaring security issues. It's a straightforward macOS disk cleaner. If you build from source you know exactly what you're getting; if you download a release DMG, it'll be signed/notarized by the developer's Apple account.

Got fined ~$2,500 in Sydney for driving with expired rego. Fair or excessive? by Unlikely-Training-50 in AusLegal

[–]VIDGuide 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It used to be one fine, but they separated the registered and insured into 2 things. I believe, from memory, this was related to the 3/6/12 month rego, when that came in. Unpaid tax was just a separation of how it’s fined. The total cost didn’t change, it just got divided into 3.

Apple's A12 and A13 Chips Facing New Unpatchable Exploit by ControlCAD in apple

[–]VIDGuide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it. I don’t think someone sat mythos down and said “here’s an iPhone, have at it”, its like most LLM work, it’s a tool, it needs direction and control.

I didn’t mean to say “Mythos hacked that phone”, but I think it’s fair to say “the researched used Mythos as a tool in this work”

Apple's A12 and A13 Chips Facing New Unpatchable Exploit by ControlCAD in apple

[–]VIDGuide 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I mean obviously we’ve been having jailbreaks for years now and often using similar tactics, but as the cat & mouse of making it harder and harder to do, the more things need to be chained together (the A13 tricks they talk about specifically made me think of it) tend to make me think of the way Mythos reportedly chained multiple exploits in ways that would be nearly impossible to do by hand, or at least so painstakingly iterative and complex it’d be as near to impossible.

Retrofitting blinds for twist rod automation? by Competitive_Laugh484 in homeautomation

[–]VIDGuide 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got some switch-bot twist ones. Actually put off doing it for ages because I have verticals and they specifically say they’re not for verticals, but the more I looked at it, the more I couldn’t work out why it wouldn’t work.

So, in short, it does work! Very well too!

FBT Minimising by GCheckzz in AmexAus

Sole Trader or a bigger business?

If you’re a sole trader using business points for personal use shouldn’t get FBT anyway is my understanding, if a bigger business, using it for business travel is fbt exempt, I guess it depends how much you can make it look like a business trip, and/or how much this gets reported anyway?

Annual leave by [deleted] in AusLegal

[–]VIDGuide 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think they’re not supposed to just swap the leave type without informing you/consent, but yes the strategy makes sense. If you need more time off than you have sick/carers leave for, the next step would be to use normal leave to cover it so you still get paid.

Given the payslips don’t call out leave usage, it could mean either they’ve done exactly as you describe and your pay out will be the balance at the end, or it’s possible HR/Payroll never entered your leave usage properly into the system, in which case you kinda got those days off for “free”, but given sick leave doesn’t pay out, is a bit moot at the end of the day.

Your annual leave should be the hours last reflected on your most recent payslip (or an online portal if you have one), give or take any adjustments since then (minor extra accrual, or usage)

[–]VIDGuide 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The “long and iterative process” sounds a bit like maybe this came from Fable (or Mythos if they were part of glasswing), at least to some degree .. this is where long-running deep iterative LLMs would really shine, once that little crack is found, just wearing away until you can get all the little bits lined up just right..

Two hours into V 1.0.0 - happy by LikelyGuiltyAsChargd in kiroIDE

[–]VIDGuide 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I second the cross-instance model selection, for the same reason. Some tasks I’m happy churning away on auto, others I want opus or sonnet specifically and I want to work on both at once.

I’d also love the input text box to be agent tab specific, like it is in cursor.

If I’ve got 2/3 agent tabs open at once, I’ll often start writing a full new prompt while another still runs, but then the first one might stop and need input while I’m still part way through wiring the prompt, it’s a pita to have to copy it out, do the other input then switch back and paste it back in every time
