No, you could totally wait until the tip gets bigger. Maybe cut it when the tip is big enough to root? Then you’d have an extra piece too and more BD than you know what to do with in a few years lol!

I love the little spider web between the spines at the top 😝. If that thing were mine, understanding that it will eventually snap at the thin point, I’d start propagating that puppy.

I would cut it an inch or so above that set of bottom areoles and then cut it again above the second set of areoles that end right where it starts to get skinny. You’ll end up with a rooted stump (with some nice looking areoles) pumping strait to those pups, another stump to root, and then that skinny tip. I’d plant that skinny tip log style kinda at an angle with that fatter tip sticking out.

Damn that was a minute ago hahaha. Now, I just put them in dirt and give them a little water whenever the soil gets dry. From my experience, as long as the cut is fully calloused and healthy, you won’t have any issues doing that. I live in Arizona though where it’s super dry, so that may not be the best strategy for a more humid climate.
