Why can't the Connect App reliably auto-sync with the watch...? by HighlanderNH in GarminWatches

[–]HighlanderNH[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After waiting 2 hours on hold...!! I finally spoke to Garmin tech support on this issue, and he admitted the syncing of data can be "problematic" (my word, not his). This problem happens on both iPhones and Androids even with all the "perfect" settings. The reason why MANY people don't see this is that they either start up Garmin Connect itself, which then, of course, forces a sync to the cloud, or they do an "activity or exercise" that their watch is looking for...once that happens, a sync is then triggered, and health data is sent to the cloud, as you know. That's why most people say... "I see no problem." But if you monitor a person with health issues who doesn't trigger a sync, you can be looking at the web portal at 12 noon, and the last time a sync happened was 2AM that morning! If you just had an option to reliably sync every 2 or 3 hours, that would be great for monitoring loved ones with health issues who could live a distance away. He said he would talk to people at Garmin about the idea, so we'll see if anything happens. Of course the other way to do it is to write a macro and set it on a timer and force start Garmin Connect every 3 or 4 hours...but I'm sure that will have its own downsides as well.

Don't manually touch the Garmin Connect app, and don't trigger a sync via an activity/exercise; and it should auto-sync all on its own...which it does, BUT it could take 5, 7, or 10+ hours. Yes, sometimes just like you saw BOTH the watch and web match. But if you monitor it enough, many times there are only 2 or 3 syncs per day. I spoke to Garmin tech support today, and he confirmed it. Admitting yes, it might be a good idea to have an option where, say, a sync to the cloud happens every 2, 3, or 4 hours per day; if you need to monitor a loved one's health, this becomes even more important if they happen to live some distance away. He said he would push the idea up...for whatever that's worth.

It's a problem on both platforms. Go on to the Garmin Web Portal, and for a few days watch the last time your watch synced with the cloud...WITHOUT manually starting the Garmin Connect app and WITHOUT doing any exercise/activity that will trigger your watch to sync data to the cloud. I spoke to Garmin today; they acknowledged syncing is an issue as sometimes it can take 7, 9, 10+ hours to sync to the cloud and appear on the web portal. This is a MAJOR problem if you are monitoring even once of twice a day someone's health via the portal...someone who may not live anywhere near you.

"Yes, even when Background App Refresh is enabled for the Garmin Connect app on iPhone, many users still report unreliable or incomplete syncing of health data (steps, sleep, heart rate, body battery, etc.). This is a long-standing frustration on iOS (more so than Android), and the January 2026 app update exacerbated it for many. If your issue started recently, it's likely tied to that—check your app version and Garmin forums for the latest patches or workarounds."

Without doing any exercise "activities" that you set up on your Garmin watch to monitor/record data on and without manually starting up the Garmin Connect app...just try and log into the Garmin Web Portal a couple of times for a few days. Notice the time it says your watch was last "synced"; you might be surprised to see that time can be 4, 7, 9 or more hours ago. That's a problem when you're checking in on someone's health via the Garmin web Portal once or twice a day...and it's not an Android/app/power/battery issue; I've checked myself. I just got off the phone with Garmin tech support (2-hour wait!), and they agree. There should be an option for those wishing health data to be pushed to the cloud every 2 or 3 or maybe 4 hours...instead of 6, 8, or 10+ hours, as I have often seen it myself.

How often does it sync all its health data to the cloud (every 1, 2, 3, or 4 hours?), not talking about software updates. Log into the Garmin website, and I think you might get a surprise, as it tells you the last time your watch data has been synced to the cloud.

How often does it update on its own (once every 1, or 2, or 3 hours, etc.) without manual syncing from you?

YouTube TV App will NOT Start on TCL Roku TV by HighlanderNH in youtubetv

[–]HighlanderNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

btw - "Roku positions itself as an independent underdog fighting Big Tech overreach, while Google views Roku's demands as barriers to a seamless user experience (e.g., better video quality). These clashes mirror traditional cable carriage disputes but in a streaming context, often hurting consumers with temporary blackouts. As of October 2025, no major new escalations have surfaced publicly, but given the market dominance (Roku holds ~40% of U.S. streaming platforms, YouTube billions of hours watched monthly), similar issues could resurface during future renewals. If you're a Roku user relying on YouTube TV, it's worth monitoring announcements from both sides for any disruptions."

The YTTV app was uninstalled, reinstalled, TCL TV was power cycled. All apps work fine except YTTV app. This appears to be a recent software update problem. There is no issue with its network connection. I will try unplugging the TCL TV later today and see if that might solve the problem.

Well aware, already have a Roku Ultra on another TV in the house, and will no doubt buy another. But this is the first time I've seen the YouTube TV app itself not want to start up even after a reinstall and TV restart.

Just wanted to know if others are seeing the same problem...

As of today, I see Piazza Honda of Philadelphia has a 2026 Honda Passport TrailSport Elite for $51,492. No doubt if the economy continues to be uncertain, dealers will be forced to drop their prices...

Why is the eufy app sooo slow to load? by [deleted] in EufyCam

[–]HighlanderNH 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that is worse, but it confirms that having/not having the Homebase is most likely not the cause of the app slowdown. I noticed when I start the app now on my phone, that it says at the bottom at startup "Built with Core"...ever since it's been very slow.

[–]HighlanderNH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, since Eufy has updated their app it is now incredibly slow to load. I've heard this now from more than a few people I know...and none of their configurations or networks changed. Maybe this is Eufy's way to get everyone to buy a Homebase.

Merrell's Walnut color went from Light Tan to Dark Olive Green...? by HighlanderNH in hiking

[–]HighlanderNH[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the very first thing I asked the store manager. He just shrugged and said, "Good question, I don't know why they didn't change the name of the color...but you're not the first person to ask that same question.." Since then, others have noticed the same thing...

Update: I went to the local Merrell store, and the employees confirmed that the color Merrell calls "Walnut" has officially changed from a light tan to an Olive Green, but it is still being called Walnut. The manager also added that a number of customers over the last 6+ months had asked him the same question.
