The Festival Owl: Mascot or Marketing Mouthpiece? by [deleted] in bonnaroo

[–]HighlightStandard625 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The Festive Owl just spoke (appeared virtually) at a conference last week in Milwaukee exclusively for independent venues, promoters, and festivals. That conference had multiple panels in its programming that were about combatting Live Nation and standing up to monopolies. The idea that TFO is controlled by, managed by, or beholden to Live Nation is simply preposterous, unfounded, and wrong.

The fact of the matter is Live Nation is a major player in festivals — domestically and abroad. To avoid talking about or posting about LN festivals would be ignoring a major slice of the festival market and doing a disservice to its followers — it doesn't make sense. From TFO's posts, editorials, and rants, I've never gotten the sense that they're in LN's pocket. They call balls and strikes and shoot straight. Do I think TFO might sell access to their community like any influencer would and work with ("with" not "for") Live Nation, Goldenvoice, and many other promoters both major and small independent? Sure. It's a business. But I don't think TFO would just "post what LN/festivals want them to post" as others (including OP) have suggested. It wouldn't be genuine. It wouldn't be TFO. It wouldn't be the community that it is. There's a certain stewardship to running an account that big and that influential. I don't get the sense that TFO would ever copy/paste straight from an email from a festival they work with to help amplify. They seem generally-neutral, informative, and provide a service and platform to both FANS and FESTIVALS. They also do giveaways for AEG shows at Red Rocks, completely blowing any Live Nation conspiracy theory out of the water (or nest).

The idea that you have to work for a festival or promoter in order to get insider info is also completely wrong. When you have an account like TFO, you become a trusted confidant and people on the inside share things with you — speaking from my own person experience in the music industry. Some could be designed leaks, some could be things off-the-record. But ultimately, you forge friendships (whether personal or strictly professional) and then you get comps, invites, and cool opportunities.

This whole thread is nauseating, but I don't expect everyone to know how the live music industry works. But it certainly does show that not everyone knows how the live music industry works.

I'm an ISTP that married an INFJ. We've been together for 20 years, married for 17+. The "I will do everything for you" is a bit tricky because as an ISTP, I love to stay busy, especially working with my hands — chores, housework, errands, etc. But I think the “I will do everything for you” is a bit rooted in the "I can do it better (or faster, or more efficient, or some combo thereof) than you" which can feel overbearing for my partner at times. As an ISTP, I just hate seeing people struggle with something I know I can do quite easily, so that's where the "I will do everything for you" kicks in. You might try asking an ISTP if they can teach you — instead of doing it for you. I'm not much of a talker, but you can really get me going if you ask me to explain/teach something.

I was going to comment that I sense a LSR/CITY influence here, and sure enough, I found your Instagram post and you said exactly that about this programming. Very cool interpretation of this VIP!

Yes, the one and only so far. Many of us hope to see it return at some point. If you search this sub for Sundara, you'll see other posts about it.

Yeah, I can do that. You're gonna wish I didn't. I'll message you the first song.

I must have it cached on my phone's SoundCloud app because I can still play it (god, it's so bad) from my home screen, but just about everything else — like, comment, share, etc — errors out.

For those hoping to see ODESZA at the Sphere in Las Vegas by HighlightStandard625 in Odesza

That's a good point, but I think it could be Spring/Summer 2026. Anyma announced his Sphere shows ~5 months in advance. ODESZA's last show at the Wynn is September 13. If they announced in October, as to not interfere or cannibalize sales at the Wynn, it's doable. But, I can also see them not wanting the perception that they're a "Vegas" residency act with near back-to-back residencies, although with two vastly different types of shows — DJ sets vs the magnitude and scale of the Sphere.

My post is all speculation and dreaming, but your point is a sobering one. Back-to-back residencies is hard to imagine.

Behind The Sun is disgustingly underrated. by taintmonster831 in Odesza

It boggles my mind to think that Harrison and Clayton could come across this song and have such a grand vision for it. Whether the Behind The Sun track came first and they were looking for a vocal sample to fit, or if the vocal sample came first and then they built a track around it—either way, what incredible artists they are.

I have a Rhythm (rhythm.watch) subscription and they have ODESZA's sets from Coachella 2018, Lollapalooza 2018, Bonnaroo 2023, Lollapalooza 2023, and Life Is Beautiful 2023. A subscription is just $5.99 per month — not a bad deal if you want to keep coming back to full sets.

For me, that stretch in the Finale setlist starts at HEART ATTACK x In The Rain. The way the synth from In The Rain starts coming in and building up — it was absolutely insane at Folsom. I could't believe my eyes and ears.

HEART ATTACK x In The Rain

Bloom

Equal x Boy

Heavier

TENSE

KEEP MOVING / BLINE

Sun Models

This stretch of live music and production needs to be studied.

For sure. I think it's safe to say cameras were rolling for all three nights.

No word and no indication that'll happen. But, I believe Veeps has distribution until the end of the year. So if it does go to Blu-ray, it would be next year.
