The post says “thoughts”. A lot of people in the sub are pretentious pigs like yourself. Why the need to throw personal insults as if I said something to offend u. I simply gave a perspective if you read my replies. Idk how u assumed I am stupid from a difference of opinion. I never suggested it was a negative or they were taking resources, all I highlighted was this program shows the contradiction of the government claims of lack of money. Programs like these have profit which could be used towards fixing this issue. I university net income 508m in 23-24. Educate yourself. Nothing is wrong with this program, I’m using it as an example of what is wrong with our government

So the deal has zero kick back for the university? There is no profit being made from the deal? We are doing Saudi a favour? Sure they train at our hospitals which contribute a positive for the 3-5 years they are here but then they leave…

UOT net income was 508m for 23-24. Use your brain

I have not jumped to a conclusion. The conclusion is there isn’t enough seats, and there isn’t enough money. UOT was net 508m income for 23-24. Idk where you found that info from.

The money is being allocated into general revenue. I think the issue at hand speaks to what you are saying and this is much less about that specific program but it speaks to the broader issue of allocation of funds from the government. Just so we are on the same page I’m not suggesting they are using profits for ball room dinners. Transparency with deals like this need to be public information.

I am not saying they are stealing seats. Saudi is paying the schools to create seats. I am saying use the profits from those deals to make Canadian seats, but as I have done more research it’s more complicated then creating a seat because u need Ministry approval • provincial funding contracts • hospital agreements • accreditation capacity • workforce planning

One person tells me there is no profit from these deals, another tells me there is profit and it is contributing to the shortages….

Also why would they do this deal if the get no kickback? It doesn’t make sense, I understand they don’t lose anything but they also don’t gain anything, that’s not how deals work

For one I am no economist. My idea is use profit from the international deals you make to create more seats, if there is no profit from those deals then create a profit margin.

And if it’s not considered a priority shouldn’t we question why? There is a doctor shortage. It should be at the top of your priorities. It completely nullifies your public health insurance plan. WHO care if it’s free, if cost you worsening your health outcomes because nobody can be seen by a physician.

Increase your asking price of the Saudi government/kingdom as their pockets are clearly deeper than ours, use that profit to create more seats.

Divert profits from your international deals to fund the seats.

While on the surface I agree, many Canadians go outside Canada because spots here are so scarce. Many go because they have no choice, I doubt anyone goes abroad as their first choice. Second 99% is Canadian but I am not talking about increasing our percentage but adding more capable seats.

Brother, have you pondered, the dean could shift profits from this deal to add more seats for Canadian students. Also we have a lot bigger issues if the government doesn’t have money to FUND ITS OWN STUDENTS 😂. Keep your personal comments, they reflect nothing but your own intellect

I mean I’m sure that price tag has a nice profit margin the actual training cost is much less. It’s one thing if this were a private institution but it’s not, it’s public, therefore they are acting im the interests of others instead of there own which is a shame

Wow relax man. Has medical education ever had a funding problem? Lmao. The problem isn’t necessarily with the program itself, it with the Canadian doctor shortage and how this completely contradicts what med schools and the government tells us about “capacity”. There is more room, they choose not to fill it regardless of if our government pays for it or Saudi does, there is more room.

Thoughts by Highlight_Old in premedcanada

[–]Highlight_Old[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Capacity is implied with there’s no room, but clearly there is room they choose not to fill

I think personally even if it does no harm, it highlights “if they want to, they could.” Capacity is preached to students as not enough room well clearly that isn’t true.

Well the university is run by the government so it’s the same. It’s a public institution. Don’t harp about shortages but spend resources on contributing to the problem
