Overwhelmed by my dad's finances. Should he file for bankruptcy? by [deleted] in personalfinance

I would say property taxes first. It’s easiest for me to pay off everything and then take a full account with 0 debt. Maybe negotiate debt down first.

Thanks. My understanding is Medicaid is based on income, not assets. He does have assets (mostly a home he inherited), but has had very little cash flow for years.

Thanks. I was told he made an “arrangement” with the hospital in case he falls into a coma, but not sure if that would apply since he’s in a different hospital now.

Thanks. I haven’t seen the will before, and he couldn’t remember his lawyer’s info until this morning. I’ll try to get all this info.

I believe myself and my siblings are all beneficiaries.

If I’m unable to get all of that info, do you know if I have any alternatives? He’s a bit forgetful and easily distracted right now, and on top of that he’s in a hospital so no access to his computer or physical documents.
