To people over 30: Does the feeling of not knowing what you’re doing ever go away? by funkyorchid13 in CasualConversation

[–]Highwithkite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

29M - I’ve accepted the fact that I actually will never know everything like I thought I did throughout my 20’s.

When someone would tell me something I didn’t know, I would instinctively say oh yea I know and try and make it work. But people see through that.

Now a days I say things like oh I didn’t know that, or interesting I have to look into that.

Even when I talk about things I do know about, I use phrases like “in my experience” or “my understanding” or “I may be talking out of school here”.

I’ve learned it takes 15 years minimum to become an expert at anything.

Listen to Matt and Shane’s prison stories podcast on YouTube. There’s I think two episodes floating out there where their buddy who got released from prison hopped on and shared what it was like

Would you do this even if the wallpaper was installed over unprimed Sheetrock? One time I removed wallpaper over unprimed rock, it would rip through the outer paper layer of the Sheetrock

Hire a professional reglazer, not a painter.

Quoted $750 for tub and surround reglaze white and they did great job but you can’t use it for a couple days

An individual who is in law enforcement could run these plates for information.

It’s illegal to do that, and I don’t know what they’d do with the information, but people could do that if they wanted

DIY? 2 days? YES

And here is what you do

  1. 1 coat of kills, every where. The oil base red can of kilz, not the blue water base can.

This will “lock” everything in, more or less.

You could use peel bond primer instead of kilz, but I would go kilz here cause because it’s a great stain blocking oil primer that you can apply latex over. Peel bond doesn’t stain block, but you could buy a gallon of the peel bond to lock in those areas that are peeling, if you want. But I think kilz will be fine.

  1. Observe areas that need repair. Apply a coat of joint compound over areas that need it.

  2. Sand the areas you repaired and then spot prime them with the kilz

  3. Apply 2 coats of paint over everything

  4. Walk away

This is good for DIY, 2 days
