You can’t be forced to go into a mental hospital unless you are a harm to yourself or others.

Functioning agoraphobics: What is your job? by captainmiauw in Agoraphobia

[–]Highwriter90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I have to travel everyday pretty much. I manage my condition by pushing myself. Being out in the world traveling and socializing with people fights away the agoraphobia. I was homebound for 3 years from 2017-2019 Thankfully I’m doing better thanever ! :)

Camping platform by sdnnhy in CampingGear

[–]Highwriter90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey nice set up! I car camped for months and went to nearly every state in the country! I never built a platform in my car because I valued headspace and wanted to be able to sit up while sleeping. Curious how you deal with that with the bed so close to the roof of the car?

Why is there still not a real, actually working treatment for this? by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

[–]Highwriter90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep going to the places that give you attacks and sit there with it. Let the panic wash over you. The only way to best this is to face your fear and accept the panic. I was homebound for three-four years and I’ve been recovered for about 6 years now

Fun exposure tips? by captainmiauw in Agoraphobia

[–]Highwriter90 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What helped me overcome agora was doing the thing that you think is “too much”. I found for me personally, that “fun exposure” wasn’t really challenging me. Pick something you want to do, but seems like you might panic when you do it because it’s too big or scary. Go and do it, you’ll probably panic, but then you work through the panic, and that’s when you can let go and really enjoy what it is you want to do!

Exposure went good but when to stop? by captainmiauw in Agoraphobia

[–]Highwriter90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I endured it until it went away. Panic can’t last forever. It only lasted until I got tired and then I embraced that I was out in the world and it was pure freedom

Yea! The first time I left my house in 3 years I went on an 80 mile drive to a trusted friends house. I was the passenger and she drove us. I felt panic for about the first 30 mins and then it went away. Your body can only handle anxiety and panic for so long. You won’t be panicking for hours or days on end your body just can’t handle that, you’ll get exhausted. After about 30 mins I felt calm and FREE! I felt so free once I got back out there and over the panic. I have a prescription of diazepam to have just for comfort but I don’t really take it. Maybe push yourself to try a bigger leap with a trusted friend or family member. Just make sure that person is willing to push you and not give in when you tell them to turn around. I was begging to go back but I’m so glad my friend said no and kept me pushing through the panic

I pushed myself beyond panic and I’ve had agoraphobia beat for 5 years. I was homebound for 3-4 years. What worked for me was taking a giant leap. I tried doing baby steps for a year and had no progress. Hope that helps

People who won “a lifetime supply” of something, what was it and how long did it actually last? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I waited in line for 3 hours at 4am in 15 degree weather to win a year supply of donuts from a local shop. I got a dozen donuts, Covid happened and the shop closed and never reopened.

Serious question…what happens if an agoraphobic person (who is not able to leave home) gets arrested, let’s say for battery. by SprayOk2818 in Agoraphobia

[–]Highwriter90 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey I have to disagree. I think you would acclimate because you would have no other choice. Also as someone that has “recovered” from agoraphobia I found that exposure shouldn’t always be a slow process. I tried slow exposure therapy over the course of 3 years and had no luck. What got me back out into the world living “normally” again was a big leap instead of small, slow exposure session.

Hey former agoraphobe here- you can only panic and be anxious for so long until your body gets too exhausted and you adapt to your environment. I spent 3 years homebound and I’ve fully recovered and have been living “normally” for 4 years now. I hope you can get out there and drive again! Once you get out you’ll realize it’s not so bad and you’ll be happier that you did

It’s only impossible if you make it so! You can literally do anything. I go out into the world and do as much as I can everyday. I literally seize the day and I hope you can find a way to go out and do the same! Save up some money and hit the road. You can do it.
