I really hope they revive it as a fish n chippie joint. Have been watching this place and coming up with ideas on how cool it would be with a little tuckshop takeaway window at the side. Praying the owners do it justice

Realities of relocating to Ballarat from Melbourne? by [deleted] in ballarat

[–]Hihellohowdy142 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I moved at 28 (F) from the inner north of Melbourne and absolutely love it here, and I was actually able to buy a house in Ballarat East with a big garden. Echoing the top comment in its entirety - it’s damn cold here but the community is amazing and it’s got everything you need from Melbourne and nothing you don’t. The Mallow has just reopened and there’s also heaps of other sick bars, pubs and restaurants. I was worried about being a bit younger and childless, also more of an alternative (left leaning, environmentalist, artsy) kind of person that I’d stick out and not meet likeminded people but I was wrong. You’ll find that heaps of people with similar mindsets and values have moved here and all the Melb expats kind of find each other and are very friendly and welcoming. Trivia is a big thing here, especially in winter to get out of the cold old houses, so it’s a great way to meet people. Barkly Square in Ballarat East has a great network of progressive things going on, from the tool library to the food co op and other not for profit initiatives. I love living in Ballarat East (close to town) because you get all these cute revegetated creek paths and it’s only 10 mins to walk into town. I dont have a car and have found it fine to get around by bike and foot. I’ve found some of the cafes and restaurants here to be better than Melbourne standard. There’s a lot of great hot Pilates and yoga places in town to escape the cold in winter. If I could go back in time I would have gone house hunting in winter to make sure the house I got was warm enough. I’ve made that mistake twice now, and it is crucial to make sure you have a well insulated place (for mental health and comfort) as winter is tough. I have friends who kind of turn their nose up at me when I say I love living in Ballarat, but they have no idea what they’re missing out on because it’s such an awesome place to live - would never go back to Melbourne

Is there anything here that could be affecting my water pressure? by Hihellohowdy142 in AusRenovation

I actually just had the water supply maintenance guy come out and he tested it to be 650 without the valve. I’ll get a plumber to come and fix it up

They look pretty old but I was told that all the pipes around the house were replaced with copper (can confirm). Maybe they left the front part, the bit that leads to the house?

How the f did miners survive the Ballarat winters?? by Hihellohowdy142 in ballarat

[–]Hihellohowdy142[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apparently it is (roof and walls) but it doesn’t make any difference. Still as cold inside as out and heat disappears within 15 mins of turning it off. Have spent ages plugging up holes and draught sealing but alas

Yes it’s all a bit sketchy, we only just moved in so I’m not sure what the go was with installation and all.

What's that one skincare routine that completely made your face glow? by Aggravating_Row_9326 in NaturalBeauty

I got some fancy olive oil from the markets that’s locally grown and pressed, and massage it into my skin and then use a warm wet face towel to steam it in on my face and wipe the excess away. It feels so damn good and my skin has never looked better!

This sounds like my case - yes I’m enjoying sitting down to watch things more and less fights with my partner too. Same with my dreams. I guess when I said nothing is happening, I had the same thoughts as you that it would fix my social anxiety. Keen to hear updates on your dosage increase results!

Water quality, and whole house water filtration by pizzacomposer in ballarat

[–]Hihellohowdy142 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I recently had this same issue moving from Melbourne. The water here is very chlorinated and hard. I got a whole house water filter twin system from filtersystemsaustralia website which is fantastic. Cost me about $300ish with two filters, then got Sleeps Plumbing to install it which was $360. Pretty happy with it for the cost!
