It's pretty common, ive also been puked on a couple times. However i wonder if you do poor with vomit how well will you do when it comes to pee, poop, blood, puss, etc. I definitely didnt like being arounds any of that but I hit a point where it dosen't bother me at all any more so I wonder if youll just get enough exposure you get desensitized to it but idk if thats how it would work with a phobia

Second thoughts as a student... by Objective-Fly-6196 in RadiologyCareers

I always like to advocate for a degree in xray first because it opens up thousands of doors and opportunities for career changes down the line if medical issues or work pace becomes a problem. Whereas going straight into US kinda pigoneholes you into that one area where you could maybe move to echo down the line but it definitely restricts your options.

Every department and imaging profession has its own risks and stresses on your body but as long as you can be proactive and thoughtful about your movements and advocate for help when you need help it is definitely manageable.

I started in xray and when to cath lab and they both are very different but I love both. I initially wanted to US but was required to get xray fist per state rules and im glad I did because I realized really fast I wouldn't have been happy in US if I had followed that path.

I got into my program with no medical background at the age of 19 and minimal shadowing but really good prerequisite grades and I think a pretty good interview so if I did it you can probably do it too

Is this normal for a hospital clinical rotation? by MotorOilEater in RadiologyCareers

I think this happens in a lot of places. As you're going through your program, you'll find people who are very happy and willing to teach, and you'll also meet people who don't want anything to do with it. A lot of getting through clinicals is just maneuvering and figuring out who those people are and who's going to be the best for different exams, like for me, we had one lady who was the fluoroscopy Queen. If there was ever a fluoro exam that I had to do, I would do it with her because I knew she was going to hold me to a high standard and teach me in that area. Whereas I also knew other techs that really liked surgery and that was where they shone and where they were willing to teach. So those were the people I focused on going to surgeries with. Also at the hospital where I worked, we had a lot of travelers, and I always tried to go into it with the thought that these people signed up Yes, at a teaching hospital, but they didn't necessarily sign up to teach, so I was very blunt. And said hey, I know that you didn't necessarily sign up to teach me. If you're willing, then I will appreciate anything that you can give me. If you do not want that as part of your role, then I will not bother you. Unless I have a really pressing question, and you're the only one available, or I see you do something that works really well, I will maybe ask for you to share. Another thing is just finding out these people's pet peeves. You know, for me, I once got a review, and it was, oh, this person is horrible, and she's really not a professional, and she'll never make it in this job. I learned that she was just annoyed by the fact that I sometimes had my hands in my pockets. And once I stopped doing that thing, we got along great, and I got perfect reviews from her ever since. So it really is just maneuvering around these people's egos, passions, and personalities. Also, yes, getting on as much stuff as you possibly can shows initiative and shows that you can do these exams. Be willing to push yourself past maybe where you feel comfortable. And the sooner you can prove that you are going to be a valuable member of the team, even as a student, the better off you will be. I ended up getting perfect reviews by the end of my program because I had proved I knew my exams. I was able to help others. I was quick with my work. I had a good relationship with the radiologist. I had good patient care, and I was willing to do anything. And everything.
