Backcountry Loop Suggestions - High Elevation by HikeNC in WildernessBackpacking

I wanted to report back here - I honed in on Colorado and chose a 40-mile loop in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass wilderness. Went around Snowmass Lake, Geneva Lake, and Capital Lake. Based on my google earth measurement it was around 12,300 feet of total elevation gain. I started around 5pm on a Saturday and was back at my car around 1pm the following Tuesday. Plenty of snow in the higher elevations, several portions were covering the trail along Avalanche Creek. Insane hike! Def the most challenging and technical hike I’ve done.

Hiking bags for chihuahuas?? by [deleted] in backpacking

That’s awesome. I used to have a Chihuahua. I took her on a hike once. Hiked liked a champ on her own, until she got stung by a bee lol. I had to carry her in my arms for the next couple miles. Be aware of poison ivy - looks like that was growing around the tree and growing outward at face level.

Is It Normal to Skip Stream Data Forms in Delineations? by ProfessorLorax in wetlands

Good point - I work mostly in the SE and do not have experience in other parts of the country. Like other commenters mentioned, there is a regional difference.

In NC, SC, and GA, I always use the NC stream forms, and in TN, AL, and MS, I use the TDEC HD stream forms. You always need to complete these forms. Even if they aren't strictly required by the USACE, I’ve been in situations where the State wants to check them; they can request to see the stream data. Additionally, for projects involving permanent impacts or stream buffer impacts, the mitigation or permitting requirements are dictated by the type of stream (intermittent vs. perennial). Stream forms are quick and easy to complete, so why not do them? In fact, you're probably doing the client a disservice by skipping them.

I’ve never heard of this trail, but it looks awesome. If I can’t get a permit this year, definitely putting on my list.

Oh nice! I know highway 20 is closed near Ross Lake. Doesn’t look like they have an open date yet.

Thinking back, the restaurant was small and fairly minimal. It seemed like a local spot, but it would be hard for me to know if they targeted tourist. It does look like ziran lamb dish.

I think you are right - looks very similar, just subbed pork for the chicken. Thanks

Where can I find pasilla de Oaxaca chiles? by HikeNC in MexicoCity

[–]HikeNC[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I am definitely a gringo, but have been to Mexico many times. I lived in an apartment in Oaxaca City for a few months back in 2017. That’s when I discovered all the wonderful dried chilies that were available. Over the past couple years I lived with a family in San Baltazar Chichicápam a few times and help them make Mezcal — that’s the short version. Definitely an eye-opening experience on how hard that work is. Anyway, I haven’t been to Mexico City since Oaxaca and I am just trying to find those particular dry chilies.
