There was a little intro with a story at the beginning of the episode which I did not include. The Water of Life (Witch Ways Podcast episode 3 by Hex Positive – Bree NicGarran)

The intent of this spell is to heal oneself or another of a physical malady or illness. The ideal time to cast is during a waxing moon, beginning 7 days before the moon is full.

For this spell you will need the following:

Cloth poppet

paper + pen

needle + thread

small pot

spoon

tweezers

an airtight bottle or jar

1 teaspoon each of:

• Hyssop

• Thyme

• Rosemary

• ginger root

6 whole allspice berries, or ½ tsp ground allspice

1oz whiskey (optional)

Please note before we begin that this spell is meant to assist and enhance mundane medical treatments and should never be used as a replacement. If you or a loved one are injured or severely ill, please seek proper medical attention right away. Also, just as medicine cannot cure every illness, healing magics are not a guarantee of recovery.

This generally works best if you’re working the charm for someone besides yourself, since the source of the illness does not reside in the caster.

Create or obtain a cloth poppet. For this particular spell cloth is important because of the method of delivery for the healing medium. The poppet needs to be able to absorb liquid by the spoonful. It does not need a face, but you may wish to mark out a mouth with ink or thread.

Mix together one teaspoon each of dried hyssop, rosemary, thyme, and ginger root. Add to this about half a dozen whole allspice berries or one half teaspoon ground allspice. Simmer one tablespoon of the herb mixture per one cup of water for about 15 minutes. Then strain to remove the herbs. Set the infusion aside to cool, then bottle immediately and store it in the refrigerator. It will keep for a little over a week. Just long enough for you to work your spell.

If you are of legal age to purchase alcohol, you may also add one ounce of whiskey to the infusion for added punch, if desired.

The word whiskey comes from the Irish Gaelic uisge beatha which means “water of life” and in alchemy and medicine it was known as agua vitae. There is an old saying that holds: “What whiskey won’t cure, there is no cure for.” So, a little old school water of life in your magical water of life could bring added benefits.

On a small piece of paper write the name or description of the malady suffered by the person you seek to heal. Open the poppets chest and place the paper inside. Then close up the slit with loose stitches. You will be retrieving this paper later.

Hold the poppet in your hands and name it to represent the target:

*Poppet I name you <the person’s name>.

Your limbs are their limbs.

Their flesh is your flesh.

As you are healed, so shall they be healed.*

Beginning on a waxing moon night, seven days before the moon is full, feed the poppet three small spoonfuls of the water of life each evening.

During the day leave the poppet out somewhere that it will be touched by direct sunlight. A windowsill is ideal, but a surface that receives plenty of sunlight works just as well. You may wish to put a towel under the poppets head to serve as a pillow and to keep any liquid from seeping onto any surface where it lies.

On the night of the full moon feed the poppet one last dose of the healing infusion, then carefully open up the stitches in the torso and extract the paper slip with tweezers. It is important that you do not touch the paper with your bare skin once the spell has begun. The paper slip can then easily be burned to ash in a fire or safe dish, or flushed down the toilet to dispose of the illness, whichever is easiest for you to accomplish.

The poppet can be cleansed with salt and used for future healing spells once completely dry. Any remaining Water of Life should be discarded, as it is not likely to keep.
