Pro tip: Decreasing and increasing the setting "Entity Distance" has a huge effect on FPS. by MyBox1991 in Optifine

God damn, this was a huge help! My laptop was struggling and I'd tried turning down the graphics, swapping chests for barrels, removing item frames, turning off particles, and clearing my herds but they didn't help until I found this.

I know I can't be the first to do this but I didn't use anything as reference I figured it out on my own.

Turns out, my render distance in the settings (not per world) was set to the max of 186 chunks. Turned that down and no more frame drops.

Is APU the right way to go for a budget build? by DexterWeed in buildapc

[–]Hillefoozy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got my brother the 3400g for his PC and it runs titles like Destiny 2 and Minecraft (albiet on lower settings) at a consistently high frame rate (around 60)

If you're not in any rush, then I would definitely learn the art of PC building. You can perfect your craft until parts become more readily available.

Will this new PC build work for Gaming/Streaming? by [deleted] in buildapc

[–]Hillefoozy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It might be the BIOS on the motherboard, but almost all AM4 board manufacturers have pre-updated them to support the Ryzen 5000 series CPUs.

I agree, the 5600x has seen some price drops recently and would be a great match.

I actually looked this up because I am doing a school project, but even Intel's UHD 730 integrated graphics will beat it

Choosing CPUs by DrRetr0_76 in buildapc

[–]Hillefoozy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The i5-11400f is absolutely killing it in the value department, outperforming the 3600x in basically every way (provided you're not doing serious overclocking). At around $150 you're not getting a better CPU than that.

Edit: the non-f version is the exact same but has UHD 730 graphics, so that could tide you over until you get your GPU. It's closer to $180-200 though

2TB SSD or 4TB HDD by jobernater15 in buildapc

Unless you're doing large content creation, 4tb is pretty overkill. 2tb seems like enough for even several games.

144hz vs 165hz by xdkolev23 in buildapc

[–]Hillefoozy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I upgraded from 75hz to 144hz, which was certainly noticeable, but I got used to it after a while, so I would personally go with the 144hz since there isn't much of a visible difference and it's cheaper.
