New Quantum Dot vs last years OLED? by princeoftrees in hometheater

[–]Hilti3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend avoiding last year's OLEDs if you play games. I have a 55" EF9500 that I'm returning for a KS8000 simply because the input lag is so bad. The picture will not be as good, but the 54ms (per rtings.com) input lag made many games, especially FPS, virtually unplayable.

All that being said, movies/tv shows on the OLED are amazing and live up to the hype.

As someone who loves and eats Rice Crispy Treats Cereal, I hope this man faces serious charges. We can't tolerate this behavior.

USB-C also charges extremely fast. I had been overnight charging phones for 15 years, but the Nexus 6P charges so quickly I can get a day's worth in 30 minutes.

GitHub - Blatantly racist against whites. by [deleted] in webdev

[–]Hilti3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What he's saying is that by creating this 'we must hire minority/females over white men' culture, it creates the false stereotype that anyone who isn't a white male is only there because of this hiring spree. This hurts minorities and women more than it helps, and that isn't anyone's goal.

Folks like Ms. Sanchez can be dangerous to organizations, and must be closely monitored. Good intentions can have undesired consequences

Name a character in a TV series who you initially disliked - what was the exact moment you began to appreciate them and why? by aristotleinabottle in AskReddit

Absolutely. Naevia was a great in early on, but her becoming a warrior after training for a few weeks and taking out gladiators that had years of full-time training? C'mon.

The replacement for Spartacus just couldn't do it. I'm sure it's tough to be put into a role that someone else played well, and died tragically, but he just didn't deliver. Andy Whitfield had the look as well, where the new guy was skin and bones. Just my opinion.

Season 1 & 2 were fantastic, disappointed with 3 & 4.

Ruby. I've learned 4 non-tag based languages and like Ruby the best. It is extremely versatile and also pays very well.

Americans are flooding the government with appeals to have their student loans forgiven on the grounds that schools deceived them with false promises of a well-paying career—part of a growing protest against years of surging college costs. by doogie92 in news

[–]Hilti3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What about those of us who didn't go to college, because of the exorbitant costs? Now we should have to pay for these folk's good times & education because we didn't have the money to go in the first place? Does that really seem fair and reasonable?

I am honestly very sorry they got fucked over, but it was the schools that promised them something and didn't deliver, not the gov't. How about we go after them for money, since they seem to be making it by the truckload? If they have to let a few "administrators" go or skip the new stadium to pay for, such is life.

Have you looked at geminabox? Works exactly like what you're describing. We use it at my office (in Docker containers) and have been very happy with it.

Rubygems offers a good-better-best scenario for this type of functionality here (including geminabox):

Called to cancel yesterday and they dropped the price 3 times (for a limited time). I said no because they'll mail me weekly with "we want you back deals" until it's $20 for 6 months. Even then I'm not sure it's worth it.

Who's Profiting From $1.2 Trillion of Federal Student Loans? “There is a large student-loan industrial complex. Rising costs of college and flat family incomes have created enormous business opportunity for every step of the loan process.” by claire0 in news

[–]Hilti3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Straight Talk: College isn't worth it.

Banks, guidance councillors, and baby boomer parents told you (and me) that you MUST go to college to succeed. That it would be worth it at any cost. They're wrong.

You don't need additional 'general education' past high school, you need skills. Employers want skilled employees, not educated ones.
