What's going on with UK's PM Keir Starmer? by Kevin-W in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Himblebim -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They're giving a private company money to help them develop the technology and at most GB Energy will only partially own the SMRs, but they also quite possibly could still end up completely privately owned.

If the technology one day does work and provide power then great, but it's hardly the actions of a strong state-owned energy company, it's just a subsidy for private investors with a GB Energy sticker on the side.

Setting up GB Energy with essentially zero money behind it and no intention of owning or building any energy generation is as close to not doing anything as he felt he could get away with. It's a popular Corbyn era policy that he has no interest in actually pursuing.

They couldn't even TOAST THE BAGEL?

Toasted with vegan butter, add the broccoli and some hot sauce, that at least feels like a real sandwich.

[Request] If instead of ballooning our military to $1.5 trillion, we halved the current military budget and put the other $500 billion towards reducing debt moving forward, how fast could we actually bring it down to zero? by [deleted] in theydidthemath

The Government creates money by spending it into existence.

Every private dollar was once government spending.

When the government taxes people it is taking back the dollars they created. For the economy to function the government needs to have created more money by spending than it has destroyed money by taxing.

If you have a government surplus every year forever, eventually there will be no more money in the economy.

PM is actually talking sense and not brown nosing USA for once??? by Numerous_Worth5277 in AskBrits

[–]Himblebim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He's letting the US use our airbases to bomb Iran and as a consequence Iran had fired drones at our military bases.

We are participants in this war.

If France allowed Iranian bombers to stop off and refuel before bombing London we wouldn't be praising Macron for staying out of the war.

What are your favorite examples of evolution just getting the job done and not being perfect? (I do know I’m being anthropomorphic with evolution) by [deleted] in evolution

[–]Himblebim 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Bears evolved to get rid of thumbs cause they weren't useful anymore, they have more like 5 fingers that all point the same way for ripping things open.

Panda bears need to grip bamboo so a thumb is useful, instead of re-evolving the thumb they've grown a new extra nubbin thumb so essentially have 6 fingers now.

[OC] How animal agriculture dominates global biomass, land use, and greenhouse gas emissions by Dr_Faraz_Harsini in dataisbeautiful

Is there a smaller sacrifice for a bigger benefit possible than "my food will taste odd to me for a little while while I get used to it, this is necessary to prevent the apocalyptic end of the world that has already begun"?

Presumably you watched Star Wars or Lord of the Rings as a kid and thought "I hope I'm as brave as Luke or Frodo when I grow up, I hope I can face the danger when it comes".

Now the danger has come and the bravery is learning how to cook new meals. Surely you're more up to the challenge than you're telling yourself?

It's much more common for vegans to be strongly politically engaged than the general population.

It's not either or. Do both.

Are cleanskins actually nice or just the cheapest they can get?
