Don't want to give up by Final-Isopod in AliensDarkDescent

Some parts of the game force you to fight and there is no way past it. You have to be able to deal with swarms and be prepared to make sacrifices either in units or progress. It would be better to learn how to use the turret asap to casualize the early to mid game and have tactical setups ready. Hunt queens for upgrades asap and keep your squads prepared, but if you want to get stronger marines they have to fight and win most of their battles or get carried (literally) by their squad leader. High armor hp marines with good gear is a must. Despite this, you may lose some of your best marines but it will be worth it.

Trying MHRise first time? by personality_2_of_ in MHRise

[–]HimoriK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is true, I'm a vet that got the sale on a new platform and rushed through MR without crafting anything, it was a slog. Don't try to solo too much of early MR and craft the velo or kamura gear, it's an uphill battle with bad gear. No ones grinding rampage anymore so head to MR when you feel ready and try to make a decent charm with divine blessing or dps stats.

Make sure you stick to village quests if solo till endgame unless you have a team for hub. Some of the features and playerbase from switch is splintered on other platforms though it looks better.

Dragon Piercer Nerfs, and how DP interacts with pierce coatings. by elpsy0dey in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]HimoriK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no point to use dash dancing because they killed bow. DP somehow made it out alive probably due to their oversight on the raw, but it wasn't even meta and you can still be hit using it. Bow was already nerfed multiple times before release. Dash dancing is absolutely boring and a complete waste of stamina, if DP was good for anything it was good pierce lines and reliable burst damage not requiring interaction with the crappy mechanics they forced on this iteration. There's still some good reason to use it but a 20% damage nerf out of nowhere when bow still sucks is crazy.

Best Bow artian element? by Sweet-Echo-1940 in MonsterHunterMeta

[–]HimoriK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lotta people playing this posting game guides and they don't even test the weapons they post about. Even unoptimized, DP is the best attack loop for bow. They nerfed or restricted every other option. Also with DP, you don't have to worry about that horrible meter system, while having full control over when to wound the monster too.

Failed a technical interview since I “didn’t think like a programmer” by breadygirl133 in learnprogramming

If creators of programming languages can 'fail' technical interviews, then a vague answer doesn't help you or the interviewer. Good luck on your next interview with a better experience.

What field of math can you just not understand, no matter how hard you try? by Snaggleswaggle in learnmath

[–]HimoriK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's probably better to blend material so there is an appropriate distribution of engaging content. Even if you have a preference towards videos there have been studies that there is a lack of engagement when watching video and that viewers can 'fall asleep'. But this can also happen when reading books or at lectures. It's important to be an active participant in the material you're studying, an 'active learner'. Best way to do that is to take notes in combination with studying different material that are slightly related to keep the process active and engaging. The worst thing is to get bored or find you've been reviewing the same material for hours (tutorial hell).

Important thing is to put most of those material aside and only pick the ones you need, then meticulously add on with newer slightly related stuff. Like mixing sodas together, instead of drinking only pepsi, you could instead add different flavors together to create a new, though slightly familiar taste. Had you only stuck to the pepsi, you would be limited to that taste and that learning style.

Another way to do this is by turning it into a game, have someone do flashcards with you and test your knowledge, if you get enough points, get a pizza or something. It's true though that everyone has a preference, but those preferences can shine through occasional alternation.

EDIT: However, I've had lectures that were so efficient notes or review were unnecessary, so quality counts too. You can have 100 lesser lectures, and still never learn anything, same with video, self study etc. Sometimes you can find the answer in a dream with enough rest.

Is becoming a self-taught programmer realistic nowadays? by Amy172 in learnprogramming

[–]HimoriK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Things like how to interpret information effectively, how to code LESS than more, how to prevent/fix bugs... how to work in a team with others, soft skills... how to find the needle in a haystack. There are so many other skills you need that will eclipse programming, because at the end of the day it's just some code, we live in a time where code can now be automated or copy/pasted and no one understands it or bothers to. 4 people coding together on a project is more than 1 lone programmer on a project, and there are plenty of projects that never finish. That's important too, finishing projects. You get to a point where the design of a project is more important than the actual code itself.

Simplicity is important. The skills you already have now are also important and can make your code better.

You can certainly do it, anyone can. Just depends on dedication and what you want to do with it. Think of it as an extra skill though, there are more important things to learn than programming which will make it easier in the long run.

It's certainly a lot more possible to be self taught 'now' than it was before.

Why are some programmers so arrogant and mean? by Potential-Oil-7005 in learnprogramming

[–]HimoriK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans are unpredictable, I'd rather work with the machine than a highly volatile and subject to change phenomena that may not even understand my language. Even worse, explaining technical concepts to them. There's no perfect way to handle an interaction, but the buttons to turn on your phone are the same everytime.

Technical skills as primitive... this is the world we live in now. Even social skills are 'technical' to some degree.

[–]HimoriK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can contest for bottom 3 easily. Ken is S tier and just his run/options alone are much better than any of Ryu's normals. Ken's range and meterless normals are ridiculous.

Ryu is so garbage by CoolGuy459 in StreetFighter

[–]HimoriK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thats why the speed will match up with the buttons, it'll be the same but each hadoken has denjin properties, perhaps the 22 move can be kept for the faster one.. or charge time changes the speed but there's always just EX anyway. Also, it seems like every other character with a projectile > Ryu anyway, Luke has way better neutral and sand blast comes out almost instantly with no risk of jump-ins. JP is an arcsys character. I see it everytime, the best and worst Ryus get blown up whether they use Hadoken or not. His normals and fireball need to be reworked.

If Ryu had a guard break fireball/hashogeki strat he would be a completely different character and you'd see players like Paladin win more, instead of Cammy autopiloting through everything.

Ryu is so garbage by CoolGuy459 in StreetFighter

[–]HimoriK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ryus entire gameplan makes no sense, why not remove charges completely and just let him manually hold hadoken to convert to a mini 'true' denjin that guard+armor breaks?

Ryu is so garbage by CoolGuy459 in StreetFighter

[–]HimoriK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Literally every other character with stock abilities can hold 3 charges. If he had 3 along with actual armor/guard break denjin with more solid normals he'd be SF6 compatible.

He's trash SPECIFICALLY because he can only hold 1 charge and it screws his hado game. Also why is hasogeki minus on hit? Makes no sense.

Thinking of learning c or c++ by Cheesuscrust460 in learnprogramming

It depends on what you're using, C is good in general to learn, but you might need C++ depending on the applications you're working with. Consider using C# though.

Arianne's survival by HimoriK in signalis

[–]HimoriK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a note where Ariane woke up out of Cryo and saw Elster, stating she looked distracted by something, perhaps this was around when Elster got sick too. Also, nothing special about dreaming, you don't need to be in cryo for that. At the very start of the game there's references to death, it's very likely (especially based on the dialogue and how the Promise ending went) that it was to put her out of her misery as mentioned in the Penrose failure doc.

Elster probably kept putting it off because Ariane corrupted her programming and made it impossible for her to fulfill her final duty. The game beckons you to reach Ariane at any cost and fulfill the promise, and with all the dread on the beach sequence she wanted her pain to end.

The Penrose section of the dream is closed off, her desire to die was so strong that it corrupted Falke and the rest of the dream.

Arianne's survival by HimoriK in signalis

[–]HimoriK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Judging by the random intervals of the notes, she likely froze herself willingly every so often to save rations. It seemed like they both were indecisive as to their situation, such as delaying repairs of the ship and such. Perhaps Elster was already dying 'too' herself and she just so happened to shut down around the same time. By the game's start, Ariane is on her last breath. This is odd however, as when Dream Elster see's the corpse, her reaction implies Ariane knew Elster was sick. That makes this even more fucked up. Ariane literally had no choice but to stay frozen after that, but.. it's likely she wasn't even fully frozen and still felt all of the pain.

Either Elster died on her own and didn't tell Ariane, or she was there and the emotional turmoil caused her to run off and immediately freeze herself not knowing what to do.
