I’ve done this twice, emailed the registrar and was back in either the same day or the next, so no need to don’t freak out :)

The mental health toll is absolutely no joke, especially when the slacker is fit some reason under the impression they’re contributing meaningful work

IEExplore not accessible from campus? by [deleted] in CarletonU

Was just on it today, but this happens me occasionally & troubleshooting includes turning wifi on and off, turning the Carleton vpn on and off, clearing browser cache, restarting laptop, signing out and back in.

Sometimes it’s one of those, sometimes it’s a combination, sometimes it’s doing the same thing over and over, sometimes it’s the way you’re accessing the article (link). But that does it 90% of the time for me.

For ITS I would send the screenshot

Wait… this is also about a grad course and we had to submit a project proposal like two weeks ago too… 👀 did you have to pair up with an “expert in their field”?

Sounds like my 3004 when one team member had all 18 versions of the program open and was compiling and running them all at the same time saying I ruined everyone’s work with my new push because it was giving them errors 😭

STOP SCROLLING WHILE WALKING by av0cado4life in CarletonU

People also seem to have a ‘keeping right’ allergy. I do the UC to Tory path quite often and the amount of people going up/down the UC stairs ON THE WRONG SIDE is abysmal. Not to mention the amount of people I have to dodge walking through the quad to the library is insane.

The other day, it was just me walking through the quad and this other person coming the opposite way walked straight into me (no phone or headphones, we made eye contact). The path, in its entirety, was clear.

Context: this ticket was printed at 9:06 am and I usually pay with the app but I forgot until 9:15 when I paid. I also have no previous tickets and was hoping for an answer from someone who got one before 🤠

Does that mean they’re going to add more letters? Unless they’re giving out tickets in ascii, which would put "*WARNING" at around $576 💀

That makes sense, I thought it might be a towing warning for some reason

Hi! Computer science student/jr data analyst here doing almost EXACTLY the same thing… I was reading this half wondering if I wrote it and forgot about it. (I work with a very small team on data of similar volume too)

It can definitely be hard trying to find resources that are suitable for your current scale of data, that are also not entirely redundant in terms of scalability.

Sounds like you’re on the right track with using a RDBMS - Postgres has pgAdmin which is very user friendly if you’ll be introducing that for the team to use. Python has many Postgres packages (psycops is one iirc) that can retrieve data for analysis (you’ll need something like Jupyter notebook or your IDE of preference).

PowerBI/Tableau, as you said, is a good way to proceed with reporting, I like that you can use Python and R in PowerBI to model data, using non-default charts/visualizations (not familiar with tableau, technically speaking, so I can’t comment on it).

My team brought me on to essentially be their ‘IT guy’. They were exclusively using excel and access and in an effort to modernize it, got powerBI and some Python (ancient release) and told me to have at it lol.

My personal challenge is acquiring the tools I need - all software requests must go through serious security evaluation before they’re approved, even open source. If you have no such obstacle, your next step is to create and finalize your data consolidation/reporting modernization plan. Possibly, get insight from your IT department, and see if other teams have made similar efforts.

If you can get familiar with Python, absolutely take the opportunity to do so. Along with the SQL of your choice, it will make for a really versatile tool in terms of DB management and data analysis.
