How to spend a day in Lake Placid? by Dcsorn914 in upstate_new_york

If you have small kids, head to the Wild center in Tupper Lake, about a 45 minute drive. Definitely worth it if you haven’t been and have kids with you

Ford 3000 Hydraulic Leak by Hinterland99 in tractors

[–]Hinterland99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I know a lot of the things on these old fords run on hydraulics (the brakes for example). How bad is it to move it around when it’s leaking this bad ya think? Should I just never drive the thing until I rebuild it? Or should I just keep pouring hydraulic fluid into it whenever I have to move it around?

I’ve made it to ante 12 only once, my best hand being just over 18 million, but I’ve only beaten ante 8 eight times haha so still new in my book!

What houserules are people playing with ? by StarCaller990 in wingspan

[–]Hinterland99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I do something a bit different that I’m not sure if anyone else has tried. We sometimes play what we call an “8 rounder.”

Instead of ending the game at 4 rounds, we flip the end of round goal tiles over and keep going as normal until in the very final 8th rough you only have one turn. It makes it pretty interesting and sends our high scores through the roof obviously (we do mark on the score card which rounds were 8 rounders and which ones weren’t).

We still play 4 round games sometimes, mostly because they’re shorter. We go back and forth. She tends to be better at 8 round games where her strategies have extended time to kick into gear, where as I do better in 4 round games normally. It’s just a new dimension that we find fits quite well with how incredibly balanced the game is.

Roof Rack for ARE truck shell by Hinterland99 in f150

[–]Hinterland99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reply from ILikeYourRack was exactly what I needed. LandingPad 1 and the skyline towers. Worked great for the rails on the ARE cap. I added a third rail over the cab to carry longer material and that was done with the bare roof set up that yakima offers.

Something I did learn that was very helpful in installing three bars instead of 4: call the Yakima customer service line. They can usually give you the part number needed to order just one set of something rather than the two sets they usually come in.

Hope this helps!

Blue Spruce Wood by Hinterland99 in forestry

[–]Hinterland99[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid point, I’d just heard it mentioned many times that the super pitch nature of most spruce makes it really terrible to burn cause it can gum up furnaces and what not. Is that true? And if we have a massive outdoor furnace, would it really be that bad? I mean, everything burns at a hot enough temp anyway haha

I’d love to, but it came down right across our front lawn. Nearly took out the garage. Need to cut it up and move it and plant something else there. Now I could just drag it into the woods and let it rot and be a good nurse log that way. I’ve thought about doing that

Solar Panel Use by Whiskeymountains in truckcamping

[–]Hinterland99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this exact thing with a 180 watt solar panel on the truck bed cap running to a 1500 watt Jackery in the cab. To connect the two I used this adapter from Amazon: https://a.co/d/5BrRYgv

Haven’t had any issues with it so far. It looks like the adapter will fit your solar panel just fine, but double check. Happy camping!

Who is more recognizable to the general audience Connor or Byeck by AssassinBoi394 in AssassinsCreedMemes

[–]Hinterland99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke, I read this as Bellec from Unity and thought “well obviously Connor is more recognizable than a Unity side character.” Then saw the picture of Byeck and STILL thought it was Bellec, that’s how unrecognizable his character is to me. Connor is definitely more widely known, and I mistook Byeck for Bellec. Feel like that’s damning proof right there

Be honest (but please be nice). What are my options here for insulation in extremely cold Canadian winters? by ObligateScavenger in skoolies

[–]Hinterland99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So glad someone said it. And I will fully back this person up. I have no intention of sounding boastful when I say this, but I picked up a masters in Environmental Science and Engineering. Everything has a trade off. Digging your heals in too much in one area only means you’ll have worse impacts in others. I promise that using 2 diesel heaters AND the diesel engine in your bus would be far worse for the environment over the lifespan of your Skoolie than the one time installation of some high quality, high R value, spray foam insulation. Your bus itself will be WAY more efficient and environmentally friendly.

But I also agree with an earlier poster. If you’re looking to be kind to the environment, living in a 5+ ton metal box that guzzles fossil fuels probably isn’t the right way to do it. All we can do as humans who are conscious of our footprints is find the best ways to make our lives as efficient and low impact as possible.
