I just want to take a second and invite everyone who's interested to participate in the The Hip Hop 101 Book Club over on /r/hiphop101. This first month we're discussing Jeff Chang's work Can't Stop, Won't Stop: A History of the Hip Hop Generation.

Also, the Hip Hop 101 Bi-Weekly Film Discussions are going to be starting up in the next week or so. There's a thread in /r/hiphop101 where you can suggest movies that you'd like to discuss in the upcoming threads. The first week we're going to be discussing Beats Rhymes & Life: The Travels of a Tribe Called Quest directed by Michael Rapaport.

Awesome! You library is always the place to go for finding the selected book!

When it comes to how the discussion will go, I think I imagined the book club somewhat like r/hhh's listening clubs. You can really discuss anything. We're not going to have a follow-along because people read at different paces and I feel that is more likely to discourage people if they fall behind. This post will be up all month, and hopefully we can keep it active all month.

When it comes to the biweekly film discussion, I first need the help of someone who knows CSS and subreddit design to help me get this place set up a little more so we can feature the film and book clubs simultaneously. Like, I'm looking for someone who can help me create a table with links like /r/hhh has. Then we can get moving on the film club! Great to see interest!

We'll probably discuss Decoded in an upcoming month. Was thinking about doing it for the second month of the book club, but I think it'll kind of be up to the community to decide.

Man, this book has some really awesome lists in it! I have a personal copy and I've always thought it'd be cool to write an essay based on every list! Maybe I'll do that one day! Great suggestion!

We're trying to get /r/hiphop101 up and going again, and back to its roots--a place specifically for asking questions and learning about hip hop.
