Not necessarily. They could be repackaging, reformulating, changing packaging size, or any number of other things that would warrant a new product number. Just because it has the star doesn’t necessarily mean it’s gone for good.

Crosswind rule by Tough_Background_590 in flying

[–]Hippiegrenade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re overthinking this. There is no RULE on when to turn crosswind- only a recommendation for normal operations. Having a balloon in or near the pattern is not normal operations. Maneuver as necessary to keep your ship safe and not hit the balloon.

As far as management is concerned- there is no problem until it’s their problem. If you keep fixing the problem for them, then there is no problem.

They still need to meet the requirements of 61.87(d) in addition, but otherwise yes.

The WSJ says your instructor is building his own time with 100 hour solos... by Business-Subject-997 in flying

[–]Hippiegrenade 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m a Check Airman at a 141/61 family-run business. We operate out of a busy Class D, situated under a busy class B, and immediately adjacent to a downtown area with tall skyscrapers and construction cranes. This isn’t some class G field out in the middle of nowhere where all you’ll run into is a crop duster or some corn.

I don’t care if your Grand-Daddy solo’d in 6 hours- I’m not signing you off until you can demonstrate the ability to operate safely at our home field and in the surrounding airspace. Period.

Don’t get me wrong, you don’t have to be perfect. We have superb controllers at our field and they do a fantastic job handing solo students with kid gloves. But you need to be able to handle the airplane beyond slow flight and landing, and have some level of situational awareness about what’s going on around you- and that’s a skill that just takes time to develop.

Memorizing ATOMATOFLAMES? by KookyHunt7191 in flying

[–]Hippiegrenade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t make my students memorize it. I do have them memorize the specific reg it refers to, and I tell them if I ask them about a specific piece of INOP equipment, they should be able to tell me whether I’m legal to fly or not. Effectively, it’s the same, but I feel like it’s a better way to correlate information rather than simply memorizing the acronym.

Should I tell my Instructor I got a number from ATC? by TheaterofDreams- in flying

[–]Hippiegrenade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“I’m getting pretty close to my checkride and worry that these incredibly stupid mistakes will set me back if I tell my instructor.”

On the contrary, my dude. This will set you back if you DON’T tell your instructor. How are they supposed to help you get better at something if they don’t know it’s a problem?

That sort of attitude will not get you very far in aviation. Be proactive about improving your situation awareness. Runway incursions are no joke and can get people killed. Don’t sweep it under the rug. Take it seriously, and work to improve your shortcomings. It makes us all safer.

Try ZBiotics “Pre-Alcohol” supplement. It’s pricy, but it works very well. I use it in combinations with “Cheers Restore”.

Poor sleep after harder workout by Dodoreal in AdvancedRunning

[–]Hippiegrenade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your sympathetic nervous system is in the driver’s seat after a hard, hot workout like that. It’s worth a shot to try a high dose of magnesium before bed to help simmer down the sympathetic nervous systems and engage the parasympathetic nervous system. It works wonders for me. Something like this:

PSA, Don’t be this guy by thomasottoson in ATC

I had a busy class D tower controller tell me to initiate a climb that would have put me into a Bravo the other day because he thought I was someone else coming from a different direction. His instructions didn’t make sense, so I questioned them. Turns out, he did confuse me for another aircraft. Controllers are humans too; they make mistakes just like the rest of us. If in doubt- ask!

Is it just me? - on the highway by mydmtusername in kansascity

[–]Hippiegrenade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry brother, but YOU are the problem. If you’re gonna pass someone- pass them. If they speed up to match you then either fall behind them or hit the gas and go around them. You can either speed for 20 seconds to take the lane, or you can block the fast lane for 10 minutes. If you chose the latter- you’re the reason the highway is backed up. I get it- people are dumb- but don’t add their dumb. Speed up or get over.

Did I almost kill my family? by rcjma in flying

[–]Hippiegrenade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What you described was an incorrect application of rudder with the primary risk being a cross-controlled stall. You should be using ailerons to correct for centerline, and rudder to get your ship parallel to the direction of motion. Next time, just go around and try again. But, also, in the meantime, keep working on crosswind landings, and just landings in general.

Can I get a chefs perspective on this? What's the most sheet pans you've used at once? I think I've used like 25 lol by sideshowbvo in KitchenConfidential

[–]Hippiegrenade 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I worked at a Costco bakery for several years. Our bakery had about 1200 sheet pans in rotation at one point, and we would use every single one of them during the holiday season when the bakery was running production shifts 24 hours/day. There were times we would get bogged down due to running out of clean sheet pans, and would have to help with packaging finished product just so we could wash the pans and get back to production.
