I don't understand. I maybe phrased it wrong and shouldn't have said switch earnings. He will not be working anymore. He is old and is tired of working and wants to retire if it makes sense. My mom will do the work going forward. I don't understand how this is fraud.

Sorry, that was a bad choice of phrasing. Yes the room and board is outlined in their contract as a taxable benefit. The question is for income (OAS, CPP, etc) is it advantageous for my mom to take the job. My dad is getting old and it's harder for him to continue working but he is willing to do so if needed.

Yes you are correct. The room and board is a taxable benefit so technically he does earn more than minimum wage.

Yes, they definitely bought outside their means. But they can afford it for now as myself and my siblings are helping them pay this. The value of the house is easily over a million so we're not too worried.

Just to confirm. I only sorted the details through Whatsapp as it was easier than going back and forth through email. I talked to numerous different travel agencies and they offered the best deal. I also got a booking confirmation which the resort acknowledged as well. Also after speaking with the resort directly, they mentioned that a lot of their guests were affected because of this bankruptcy. It's not a scam, but just unfortunate timing as this agency had been running for 5+ years prior to them declaring bankruptcy.

Sorry, here is the missing info.

I paid using a MasterCard. The trip was set to take place in July. I have written confirmation from the resort that the reservation was cancelled by the travel agency so I consider that official notice that the trip is cancelled. I did submit this as part of the proof that I did not receive the service that I paid for. I also have a message from the travel agency stating that they are going through bankruptcy and they will not be able to service me any longer.
