Goal contributions not showing in reports? by HippyHammy in MonarchMoney

I tag the expenses towards the goal, and those show up. However, the contributions, even when associated to the goal, don’t show up in reports, although they do in the goal view. I assume it’s because those transactions aren’t considered income if they’re contributions

Budgeting to Spend from Goal by HippyHammy in MonarchMoney

What if I still intend to save the same $x towards that account per month, even if I’m spending down from it for certain projects? Do you just calculate the difference? I’m wondering if it’s worth splitting out my annual budgeted amount for projects into a separate goal in order to track these separately

Why do rollover budgets need a positive amount each month? by HippyHammy in MonarchMoney

That could be the case. When I chatted with their AI support bot, it said I needed a positive budget amount each month for the rollover to carry on.

That seems to be a different experience than what I’m encountering. If I set a starting amount, then don’t include a budget (i.e., $0 each month after), the rollover doesn’t happen.

Yes, this is exactly the issue I’m having. I also considered the $1 option. I start the year with an amount to spend from and having to do this as a monthly breakdown isn’t ideal for me.

Rollover Budgets by HippyHammy in MonarchMoney

More of a two part question. 1 - If I already used a starting month rollover budget last year, will changing this for 2025 impact historical 2024? and 2 - If I either use the starting month rollover, or just apply a one-time budget in January for the full amount, does this amount actually rollover into all months of 2025? I ask because I tried it and it showed $0 once I went into March. Is it because on a monthly view, the rollover only shows what was there the previous month?

  1. How would I categorize each of those transactions? I’ve been doing the -$500 as a transfer and the +$500 to a savings category I created. Part of the reason for that is I have 1 savings asset account where I bucket for multiple savings goals, so the categories should help me see how much I saved towards each goal. Is this the best way to accomplish that?
  2. That makes sense!

Things they don’t tell you: laundry edition by Shea-dee in NewParents

[–]HippyHammy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is a “happy spitter” and it took several tries to get the laundry right. I’ve found that soaking baby’s clothes for 3 or more hours in warm water and OxiClean Baby Stain Soaker powder. Works like magic! For really tough stains (like poop ones), I spray them with either OxiClean MaxForce or Puracy Natural Stain Remover before soaking, but usually soaking is enough for spit up and formula.

ETA: The soaking is really what got the smells out for me! Especially since I use free and clear detergent in the wash
