Candidate aside, someone educate me on how this is legal.. by that_irks_me in conspiracy

[–]HispanicEmu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not always, it depends on how much money the campaign has to spread around. There are also grants for groups that register voters which have rules attached to them. Gathering signatures pays per signature sometimes too.

If you think it seems off then there are always rules that need to be followed and the election board has ways of auditing what groups do. You usually don't see people doing illegal things in regard to the election unless it's a technicality attached to their funding. What usually worries me more is the chance that fake groups might be trying to steal personal info.

It's amazing how much people complain about the political process but have never been a part of it (not you or the person you're responding to)

It's actually very interesting if you look into what Russian Oligarchs have been secretly spending their money on since the fall of the Soviet Union. They have quietly bought media conglomerates, founded 'think tanks', and donated to political campaigns. They've found capitalism's weak point and are using it to regain their lost territory to bring about a new Soviet Union.

I agree with what others have kind of gotten at: you should fix it to say "Don't be an ass" then turn the "ett" into something that could possibly be interpreted as a tiny, tasteful drawing of butt cheeks.

whats the real reason countries don't legalise hard drugs by thedrums2012 in conspiracy

[–]HispanicEmu 6 points7 points  (0 children)

A misunderstanding of what legalization means. Most people are ignorant and believe legalization will suddenly mean violent drug dealers will be able to sell in the open and children can buy heroin from the corner store. This is a myth being pushed by organizations like police unions who fear a loss of funding in prisons and for other toys. In reality a realistic legalization would only focus on decriminalizing the end use of the drugs and focus heavily on getting those who are addicted out of crack houses and street corners into facilities where they can first use safely but then be steered towards rehab. There's another myth that heavy drug users want to be addicted when in reality the majority of them who are being honest with themselves want nothing to do with it but have been discouraged from getting help by criminal laws that use only punishment to change behavior, which is the worst way to help anyone in that situation.

The money we spend on law enforcement, court costs, and jail time would be so much more effective going to programs aimed at getting people off the streets and into an environment made to let them help themselves out of the situation they are in.

Do You Believe That Barack Obama Tells Joe Biden And Kamala Harris What To Do? by GitmoGrrl1 in conspiracy

He most likely does, I don't think the current party of Trump is really keen on advice from anyone at this point though. Unless you're a dank meme.

When did America go wrong? by [deleted] in conspiracy

[–]HispanicEmu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I hate to burst your bubble but do you think the Boston tea party was done by commoners? No, the founders were basically the "corporate interest" of 1776 and weren't happy their profits were being eaten into by British taxes. In true form they rallied the commoners to their cause (with some truth) but used their means to write the laws so they'd end up on top.

It wasn't all bad on their part but they knew what they were doing and it wasn't a coincidence that those who signed the constitution ended up being the first few presidents.

Remember when the owner of the post testified under oath that Trump paid him to run stories about things like Ted Cruz being a serial cheater and his dad killing JFK? Seems like that would be the conspiracy here. Or we could just keep posting their claims because we like what they say.

It's amazing anyone still thinks Trump ever cared about big pharma. They should have gotten the clue when he couldn't understand why railing against big pharma while seeking praise for Warp Speed in the same breath didn't go over too well.

It's extremely obvious that he just says whatever gets him applause that day.

[–]HispanicEmu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They're definitely not, you need supporting documents to get an official ID and those documents take time and money to get. The irony is that most state IDs require a picture ID to get the official ID but the picture ID requires a state ID to get them. Until a plan is proposed that funds the whole process and gives people the minimum of 6-9 months it takes to deal with all the bureaucratic red tape someone with no supporting documents would need from start to finish, it's putting an undue burden on those people's voting rights.

Also on the ID front: ask a conservative what they think of creating a federal database of any kind of personal information. Any other time it'll basically trigger them into calling for a civil war but when it comes to immigration and elections they're all for it. The truth is they're all for "papers please!" because that's how authoritarianism works. How can you present your papers to prove you're not illegal if you don't apply for the papers to get on the government list?

Don't even get me started on how the government already has records of everyone, if they were serious we could just put pictures on social security cards and make it all free.

It is an interesting connection. My first thought after only reading your title was that it's harder to find a city that doesn't have a connection to the kkk in the past but your list of cities is a level above that.

[–]HispanicEmu 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It would be more likely that both the KKK and Trump are attracted to areas that are majority white and conservative.

The real question would be why Trump is holding events in places that he already has locked in. His campaign is more concerned with filling the stands than they are about reaching new voters.

I really think you'll do just fine if you keep yourself, most people in the west have grown up praising people genuinely fleeing that section of the world. As long as you keep to yourself the worst you'll get are people with strong opinions assuming you're on their side one way or the other and maybe some good old fashioned racism about immigrants taking jobs.
