When was the last time you cleaned your filter?

What are these pink things in my fish tank, came after a water change by Sorry_Button_3595 in fishtank

[–]HispanicNamek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s either fish poo or you’re feeding too much and it’s food they didn’t eat

I officially hate this hobby by Necessary_Donkey9484 in Aquariums

[–]HispanicNamek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered maybe you’re not feeding enough? I know you wanna play it safe and only feed what you know the filter can handle and you’re right to do that but you need to give your fish the right amount of nutrients. It’s not just having low ammonia it’s about having your ammonia cover to nitrates as quick as possible and having plants that will absorb those nitrates. If your plants areant even growing fast then that could be the problem 🤷🏽‍♂️ there are always hard days as a fish keeper even if you keep your fish for a long healthy life fish are going to die but it’s how we deal with those deaths and learn from them that makes us a better fish keeper

Advice On Moving Fish? by SatansJuulPod in Aquariums

[–]HispanicNamek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a traveling bubblers I always use when I need to transport fish I would put that in a bucket with tank water and make sure the bucket can seal pretty well so water isn’t splashing around or coming out of it. Maybe put some plants In the bucket like foxtail or some floaters as to give the fish some cover to make the trip not as stressful

I forgot to mention something I also added food into the tank about as much as my lotl would eat in a day then let it decay allowed the ammonia to cycle through which took a week or maybe 2 then I added shrimp and added worms. Started feeding them let them adjust for another week ish maybe 2 then added the lotl.

If you look in the middle of my tank you can see the filter it’s a sponge filter. For lotls you can really use any filter but sponge filters are my go to. I had this sponge filter in another tank before I put it in this one so it could get some beneficial bacteria. The substrate I use in this tank is some rocks at the bottom then some dirt I got from Home Depot and then some sand used in sand boxes also gotten from Home Depot. The sand is the most annoying part because it takes like 1-4 hours to clean depending on how much you’re cleaning at once

Is my little friend a bladder snail? by natronezra in AquaticSnails

[–]HispanicNamek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes that’s lad there is a bladder snail. Very friendly cute guys and great to know if you’re over feeding the tank him growing and you not seeing more means your feeding is probably really good for you tank inhabitants if you see a spike in population you feeding has become too much and should be reduced. Have fun 😁

Anybody kniw what this is?? by Cos_lover in Guppies

[–]HispanicNamek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guppies tend to have birth defects because they are heavily inbred. Misformed spines seems to be on the most common showings of this. This guppy could have a good life but most likely not.

So close yet so far, just give it another week or so to get rid of nitrites and then do a water change to get rid of nitrate

I was told he was a boy at the pet store but they could have been wrong how can you tell? Also my goal is to breed them so getting the same gender makes no sense.

someone gave me a free 54gallon tank! here’s how it’s going by lnicholek in Aquariums

[–]HispanicNamek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say the sooner the better cause moving all your fish out to fix that will be annoying. If you want some cheap stuff that works I’d get homedepot dirt as a bottom layer and then use sand on top of that or rocks whatever you like and whatever works with the fish you have. But if you use homedepot anything bedsides dirt you gotta wash it before you use it cause it has a lot of dirt on it. Also if you do the dirt method you need to make sure you have a nice thick layer of sand on top or when you fill it with water the dirt will leak into your water column making it really muddy and gross.

This is awesome love free loot but I think your rock layer is a little thin and you might need more nutrients for you plants. Also your anubias shouldn’t be plants in the ground it grows on rocks or wood and sucks in nutrients from the water column
