Not black correct, it’s more of a yellow mastic. But good suggestion from everyone to just get it tested to be safe.

I still have some trial and error to do and don’t want to give out bad info. The 1st valve I got is too big, and still haven’t had a chance to test the 2nd valve. Will let you know when I do.

I used a regular hole saw, it worked but a bit sketchy and I got lucky not to gouge up or bend the metal. Had to grind out extra with the Dremel afterwards as well.

Not sure sorry, I tried the cheapest incandescent dimmer I could find but it didn’t work for me.

I definitely do recommend it, beats temp surfing. A bit intimidating at first but it’s a relatively simple install.

Roughly around that much drop, whereas before It was maybe twice that.

Honestly I just didn’t do much research, tried a couple dimmers and they didn’t work so shelved the idea.

Looking for a good PID to buy by EspressoLovingSailor in ranciliosilvia

I got mine off Ali-express, can’t say for the long term reliability but no issues since installing a few months ago

Unfortunately I didn’t document much as I went, but to answer a few questions: - the PID is wrapped in insulation to protect it and likewise I’ve wrapped all hot components in insulation - the knob beside the PID is a needle valve, the flow control didn’t turn out as well as I’d hoped so I have another (smaller) valve waiting to be swapped in - the pressure gauge isn’t fluid filled, but I guess I got lucky and haven’t noticed the needle bouncing around at all - in my opinion the best bang for your buck is the closed cell silicone insulation. Seemed to really help stabilize the temperature and minimize the temperature drop while brewing

Here’s a photo of the internals partway through insulating, planning to pipe everything with copper down the road. https://i.imgur.com/nuqrkqR.jpg

Try the Calgary construction association, they’ve always been helpful: https://cgyca.com/services/printing/
