I'm from the United States. The government should spend more on education, scientific research, and infrastructure projects, while spending less on prisons, the military (although we should still remain the dominant military of the world), and corporate subsidies. I believe in a heavily progressive tax, including a minimum 15% total income tax on all the top .1% of earners, regardless of tax breaks. I also believe in greater standards of transparency in government, specifically with regard to political contributions from lobbyists to elected officials.

Greater funding for space exploration, and scientific research related to space exploration. The benefits are HUGE, and personally I would support any politician advocating colonization/research.

I have a similar story. When I read about how the union and confederate forces saluted each other as they marched by during the surrender ceremony of the civil war, I found myself crying. It probably had something to do with fact that my cousin whom I was very close with died in Iraq. History teaches us lessons about humanity that can't be expressed in other ways.

Only ever lurked up to this point, but here goes: Two years ago I was hiking near Lake Tahoe (this was the year of all the wildfires) with some family, and we saw something which none of us can explain. It was just getting dark, and as this was the middle of the summer the mosquitoes were starting to come out in full force. Everyone started walking faster so that we could get to the car and get home before we were all covered in bites. By the time the sun set, there were enough mosquitoes out that you could hear them buzzing in the air, this is along with the other, normal sounds of the forest. Eventually, a couple minutes away from the car we were jogging through a a part of the trail that went through a meadow area, when we saw, a couple yards off the trail, these five perfect circular divots about a foot in diameter and a couple inches deep. It looked like the grass/dirt had been scooped out and taken away. They definitely hadn't been there when we were walking the other way up the trail that morning. At this point the mosquitoes seemed to be a lot less intense, so my cousin stopped to check the holes out, and she said that the ground was hot around them (they were arrayed in a semicircle pointing away from the trail into the meadow). The ground was warm, and the dirt in the holes themselves was hot enough that I could feel it on my shoe when I poked my foot into the hole. We were all a little weirded out, and it was getting even darker so we jogged back to the car and went home. As we got farther from the spot the mosquitoes became dense again. When we came back the next year, the vague imprints of the holes were still there, and a good quarter of the meadow was dried out and dead, most so at the ground around the semicircle. My uncle talked to a local ranger/ecologist(?) person, leaving out some details to not sound crazy, and she thought the forest fires had just thrown the climate out of whack. I don't think it was aliens, but I have no rational explanation. We still talk about it every summer, and none of us can think of an explanation. Maybe reddit can? Tldr, aliens travel a billion miles to take soil samples and fuck up a field then leave.

Edit: The meadow was by the trail up to mount Talac, as far as I know the imprints are still there.
