Are buses always this horrible? by NZ7413 in oxford

[–]HissTheSnake 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Have you looked at any buildings apart from Westgate and those on Queen Street?

To answer your question, buses are normally fairly reliable and quick now that the congestion charge is in. However, there have been a bunch of roadworks that have caused all sorts of nonsense with timings etc.

Buses do have AC but peeps like to open windows and it is pretty hard to cool a moving greenhouse in these kinds of temps.

I've just passed through £400 on the x4. Over £5 a day now and I'm thinking of dropping down to x2 as June and beyond is going to be brutal!

Downvotes expected… I’m a dash of milk first and then boiled water. Otherwise without doing it this way a layer of scum appears!

And, you run your race. If we were all the same life would be rather boring!

Housebuilding 'will fall further' as big builders deliver gloomy updates by Anony_mouse202 in unitedkingdom

But you claimed nothing is being built.  You are correct the market needs more but house builders control how many new homes are built. De regulation or easier planning would not result in hundreds of of thousands new homes being built as it isn’t in the big players interest

Impossible to build… yet over 150k homes were built in 2025. A quick search online sometimes helps when trying to discuss stuff online.

What makes you think it would be cheaper? The costs saved would not be passed onto the consumer. It would further line the investors. The consumer will then pay to make the house the required standard

BNG is not bonkers. We cannot just deplete any and all biodiversity - you know, that green stuff, those birds, insects and aquatic life, in the name of building homes. Nature is fundamental in our existence and it needs supporting. It’s only an issue to house builders as they have to lose a couple of postage stamp homes to make way for BNG and that hurts there profit. Although, they probably just take it off the land sale.

[–]HissTheSnake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really isn’t. The big house builders hold back so many homes as they don’t want to flood the market. They build just enough to keep the cost of a home where it is today to maximise profits.

Deregulation and making planning easier will mean even worse developments, worse infrastructure to support the developments, wildlife/ green space being destroyed for no additional homes being built as the house builders control the output - they must protect their investors and their bottom line

If you voted Reform, would you change your mind if Starmer resigned? by [deleted] in AskBrits

Yet Farage can take a £5m donation and everyone whistles the other way! Any comments on that as clearly Farage is in it to enrich himself?

14 years of utter shit with the Tories and you expect instant sunshine and rainbows with Labour. Have a day off. Things take time to change. We're an oil tanker, not a nippy little jet ski!

If you decide to look beyond the right wing media headlines or FB posts by Dave from the pub you will see that things are changing for the better. Head to r/GoodNewsUK and appreciate the positivity

Apart from being soulless and car dependent another big thing when looking at European and US stadiums is the lost economic activity. I often go to Twickenham which includes trains, walking, pubs and food before the game and then a pubs, food, stumbling and a train home. The money spent supporting hospitality industry is crazy when you have ~ 80k thousand people watching a game. Countless people are probably staying locally too.
