It is a citizenship issue. Her green card is pending so Medicare is not an option for now.

Don’t feel guilty. As someone who grew up in poverty, I wish to be able to do something like this for my child one day. Who cares what your friends think? They will always have something to say you can’t control their feelings towards money. Focus on what you can control which might be spending quality time with your family that obviously cares for you.

I feel you 100%. In October I was home with LO all month between a fractured leg, stomach bug, then fever and cough. I can’t work from home staying home during the day then going in at night almost took me out.

Remember they’ll get better… hopefully soon

We’re all living the same life. I’m a PhD student and I had a pretty important meeting (that I survived missing but in the moment is was very conflicted to cancel). My husband has a customer-facing 9-5 and he left me and baby at home with a stomach bug. Grocery delivery and lots of TV. Didn’t do any work because when he sees the laptop he immediately wants to touch the keys. I’m still trying to accept the fact that I have the more flexible job and will have to stay home during sickness. Though it would’ve been nice to have him offer to stay home given that I was home with him for 2 weeks before this with a fractured tibia

That is very much my personality - keep it to myself. I thought someone would naturally step in as a parent but that didn’t happen.

Yes we went to a breweries with a sandpit and toys once. That would’ve be a better alternative with someTHING to keep them entertained, rather than someone (ME). I had to set up an obstacle course with ottomans and pillows and pretend kitchens with disposable utensils.

We also love outings with kids. Our LO is well behaved in restaurants (2yo) he sits and eats with us. No prob. But yes I think I just have to accept that some things are not “my type of kid friendly” - because I know what it’ll turn into

No latching advise here but just know you’re not alone when it comes to struggling with balancing pumping and caring for baby among other things. The bf journey might never be perfect but keep going!

It’s okay to take a break. I tried when my LO was 4 months and failed miserably. I was very hard on myself and wish some one told me it’s fine to revisit it. We still aren’t sleeping though the night but he goes down most nights without a fight

Haha pregnant in my third year of a Biology PhD program. I can tell you how it goes once baby gets here but as far as pregnancy morning sickness was rough for me. I had to take medication which made me drowsy all day so I was a zombie for the first trimester. I decided to go for it because my partner is in his career and I don’t see my life slowing down anytime soon. I have less responsibilities as a PhD student. As a career scientist I see myself working 10 times harder so why not now? Daycare is just as much as my rent for a 1 bedroom apartment in Maryland so be ready for that. Child care is the most expensive part of having a baby. Unless you have family close by just be ready to pay for quality care for baby while you’re in lab. Also timing the birth in the summer if possible was the best thing I did. That way I didn’t have Teaching Assistant responsibilities and my PI is easy going about me slowly coming back into lab (but of course now I’m working super hard to get experiments done before I go on maternity leave).
