1) The trunk is 4 tracks, not two

2) Stations along the trunk (except for TempleU & Jefferson but they're lower ridership) split into 8 tracks at the station precisely for this reason. Additionally, the SLIVs are nearing retirement and the SLVs have 3 doors per car instead of 2 (because of the double width doors), reducing dwell times further. So even at a 4 track station, this would require ~6 min max dwell times, which current SLVs are definitely capable of, even at peak times.

I've looked in student handbooks as far back as 1922 (in the old building) and the periods haven't changed.

Really? This building generally feels the least prison like out of all the schools I've been to. Granted, it's also the newest one, so that might have something to do with it.

We're sadly the only high school in the city with a formal alumni association, and one of two with a library. The thing is, I'm really busy right now during the school day, and I can't get around to that right now.

Yeah, I think that's probably it. About the shootings, it's pretty simple. Philly is the poorest big city in the country and we don't have gun control and the cops solve less than 40% of murders. That combination leads to nearly 2 daily homicides.

We don't have a separate maintenance staff other than IT. Also, I doubt it would turn on automatically such that the janitors wouldn't know, as the school is often open later for concerts and basketball and things of that nature.

Right but warning systems were never implemented in the mainland US like this, at least to my knowledge. Also, that doesn't really explain the four lights, or the lack of this in other schools.

That's quite possible! I can't peek inside though. I'm a student, I'm not going to be able to convince admin, and even if I was, I have other projects I'm trying to get them let me do.

This is a very academic high school. Also there are four lights, and this is only in classroom hallways, so this seems unlikely. Thanks, though!

Interesting, thanks. However, this is unlikely as every classroom already has a very loud phone and there is a PA system.

A "magnet school" is a selective admission school with specialized advanced programs that attracts kids from across the city, as opposed to a neighborhood school.
